This position is a temporary appointment anticipated to last 6 months though may be extended or decreased due to business need. Internal candidates may be considered as a job rotation with their current managers approval.
About the Job Your Role
Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution has a temporary employment opportunity for a Facility Maintenance Specialist you will perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair and preventive maintenance work to support facility buildings grounds and equipment. You will complete assigned work orders assist with daily operations and ensure facilities are maintained in a safe functional and efficient condition.
Your work will span multiple building trades including carpentry plumbing support electrical support painting welding lock repair and general maintenance. You will also assist with grounds maintenance material handling and tool inventory while following all safety security and operational procedures. Daily assignments will vary based on facility needs and workload.
This position is unrepresented and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) as defined by statute.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of: a) general building maintenance; b) carpentry; c) electrical; d) mechanical; e) painting; or f) plastering experience.
A journeymans license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for this experience.

Working Conditions
Work is performed within the confines of a large medium-security correctional facility. Routine continual direct contact with convicted male felons is required. Continuous contact and exposure to hostile and/or potentially violent behavior of AICs. Responsible for taking immediate corrective action when dealing one-to-one with AICs on a daily basis. Physical exertion may be required in responding to AICs out of control behavior restraining AICs breaking up fights coming to the aid of other staff members etc. May be exposed to communicable diseases. Subject to callback in the event of an emergency or work stoppage and is subject to assignment in any position or area of the institution. May be required to work weekends holidays and/or any shift. Daily work in a highly active and noisy area with the work being completed on schedule.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position.
