Position Description

The Food Access Program Coordinator VISTA will work to increase resources to support TSF food access programs by cultivating relationships with partner agencies and training staff and volunteers on best practices for outreach and food rescue. As a result of the VISTA members service TSF will have a handbook to secure long-term support from agency partners ensuring the organization can continue to support low-income youth and families working to improve economic stability.

Role and Responsibilities

PROGRAM & ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of TSFs mission core programs services and events.

  • Learn the structure goals and operations of the Nutritional Services Department.

  • Become familiar with the populations served and TSFs network of community partner agencies.

  • Participate in AmeriCorps VISTA orientation and TSF onboarding activities.

  • Review historical program materials sustainability documents and prior VISTA work to understand existing outreach and partnership systems.
    Shadow the Nutritional Services team members to gain hands-on knowledge of program operations.

PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT & ENGAGEMENT

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners to support food access and food rescue efforts.

  • Attend and document meetings with existing and potential partner agencies alongside Nutritional Services leadership.
    Identify and cultivate new partners to support the program through:

    • In-kind food donations

    • Food delivery or hosting sites

    • Technical expertise or in-kind equipment

  • Create and maintain a partnership engagement log to track contact information resources and collaboration outcomes.

  • Develop a comprehensive internal resource detailing partner agencies relationships and key contacts.

FOOD RESCUE PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Support the design of ahub-and-spoke food rescue modelto increase food distribution capacity.

  • Research best practices in food rescue food safety and regulatory compliance.

  • Obtain ServeSafe certification and learn Good Manufacturing Practices and FDA compliance standards.

  • Collaborate with staff and consultants to develop food safety plans for food rescue operations.

  • Assist in developing inventory tracking data collection and reporting processes for food rescue activities.

TRAINING DOCUMENTATION & SUSTAINABILITY

  • Create agendas materials and documentation to support stakeholder collaboration.

  • Develop best practices standard operating procedures and partnership guidelines for food rescue programs.

  • Co-create aFood Rescue Program Handbookthat includes:

    • Food safety protocols

    • Partnership engagement strategies

    • Program workflows and logistics

    • Data tracking and reporting processes

  • Train TSF staff on implementing sustaining and reporting on the food rescue program.

  • Document program outcomes and lessons learned to ensure continuity beyond the VISTA term.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & COLLABORATION

  • Meet regularly with the Site Supervisor to assess capacity gaps and refine the annual work plan.

  • Collaborate with the Data & Evaluation VISTA and other TSF staff to align program outputs and reporting.

  • Seek internal and external professional development opportunities related to program development food safety and partner engagement.

Preferred Education & Qualifications


  • AmeriCorps VISTAs must be 18 years or older.

  • Have a Valid Drivers License.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have lawful permanent residency.
