UKAEAs Year in Industry placements provide students with the opportunity to work on real engineering projects gaining practical skills and industry knowledge before returning to university to complete their degree.
- Learn from experienced engineers supporting your academic studies while developing skills for your future engineering career.
- Develop new technical and professional skills and gain valuable real-world engineering experience.
- Gain insight into the wide range of engineering roles and projects across UKAEA.
- Work on a variety of projects with typical assessment durations ranging from two weeks to three months.
- Contribute to projects supporting JET Decommissioning and Repurposing MAST-U and Fusion Futures.
- Support design and equipment qualification activities within the Engineering Qualification team across UKAEA programmes.
- Apply a range of analysis methods including static dynamic thermal structural fluid and electromagnetic analyses.
- Use industry-standard simulation tools including ANSYS and other specialist software.
- Work on projects such as MAST-U upgrades STEP fusion power plant concept design and JET tokamak decommissioning.
Qualifications :
- Studying towards a degree in Science or Engineering
- Confident with all Microsoft applications including Excel Word and Powerpoint
- Driven with a strong appetite to learn and take on new challenges
- Able to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Well organised and adaptable with the ability to plan and prioritise workload
