Job Summary

About the Role:

As an After Hours Support Worker youll be a key figure in ensuring the safety and well-being of young people during nighttime hours. This role is dynamic and requires you to be on-call ready to respond to critical incidents and provide immediate assistance when needed. You will be tasked with delivering phone support to youth workers across different residential care homes guiding them through challenging situations and offering practical advice to manage incidents effectively.

In addition to phone support you will be required to drive to various residential care homes to provide in-person support assess situations and offer hands-on assistance during after-hours incidents. Your work will be focused on creating a secure supportive environment where young people feel safe and empowered even outside of regular working hours.

Throughout your shift you will be expected to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism compassion and a strong commitment to safeguarding the well-being of each individual. Your ability to remain calm and responsive in crisis situations will be essential to the role making you a vital part of the overnight care team.

As an After Hours Support Worker we are seeking experienced youth workers. You will be on-call to manage high-pressure situations offering guidance and when necessary traveling to care homes to provide in-person support. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the safety well-being and independence of young people during nighttime hours while fostering strong connections to their families and communities.

Key selection criteria:

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum qualification requirements for this position is a Diploma of Youth Work Community Services or equivalent.
  • Aboriginal staff - a qualification is desirable but experience and willingness; to participate in training is essential.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in youth services residential care or supported accommodation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children young people and their families.
  • Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with children and young people who have experience significant challenges and trauma.

  • Contribute to creating a safe supportive and nurturing environment for young people.
  • Assist in the development of independent living skills empowering young people for the future.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of young people by reporting any concerns promptly.
  • Support young people in maintaining connections to important people and places in their lives.

  • Valid and current Drivers License.
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by Mackillop).
  • Valid Employee Working with Children Check.
  • Valid NDIS Workers Screening Check (for client-facing roles).
