Position Overview:
Within the Office of Epidemiology Surveillance and Emerging Diseases and under the supervision of the Manager for Communicable and Emerging Diseases the Communicable Diseases Supervisor oversees disease surveillance operations for communicable and emerging infectious diseases. This position works closely with the Epi Team Leads and Intake team to coordinate daily activities implement quality improvement plans and train new and current epidemiology staff in accordance with Senior Managers vision and goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Supervises the communicable disease team of investigators and epidemiologists within OESED with a focus on TB and Perinatal Hep B conditions. This includes organizing and monitoring work processes conducting staff training and performance evaluations and coordinating partner communication. Assigns and participates in 24/7 on-call duty.
Identifies gaps and areas for improvement in operations makes recommendations for program enhancements and implements approved changes under the direction of the Manager.
Monitors daily operations resolves operational issues organizes workflow to ensure key performance indicators and quality assurance standards are met. Conducts staff training and cross-training to ensure proficient workforce and available surge capacity if needed for emerging disease or disaster response.
Provides details for department wide reporting and initiatives pertaining to communicable diseases with a focus on TB and Perinatal Hep B. Supervises improvements to and disease investigation data reporting from disease case management system. Collaborates with CHWD on TB and Perinatal Hep B activities.
In the absence of the Communicable and Emerging Diseases Manager attends meetings and responds to inquiries on their behalf when requested. Other duties as assigned including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.
Requirements
Education:
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in biostatistics/statistics epidemiology public health informatics or a related health or science field.
Experience:- At least three (3) years of practical experience in the field of epidemiology communicable disease control or in public health setting with a focus on disease investigations report writing and/or analyzing statistical data in public health or related health settings.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).
- Proficient with statistical analysis software (SPSS STATA SAS R or Epi Info).
- Proficient with epidemiological database software (e.g. Maven).
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
- Ability to write reports and technical papers.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
- Ability to work well with public and staff members.
