The Opportunity

WSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 2 to serve as an engineering assistant supporting the development and delivery of transportation projects. This position is responsible for preparing and processing agreements with local agencies and consultants; coordinating with project offices and regional partners; reviewing Plans for Approval (PFAs) and Plans Specifications & Estimates (PS&Es) prepared by consultants for Development Services and WSDOT projects; and assisting with the review of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements to ensure compliance across all WSDOT and Development Services projects.

What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role the Agreements & Support Services Engineer will:

  • Support and facilitate the processing of consultant agreements.
  • Work with project offices to ensure the scope and budget of the agreement matches the expected products.
  • Prepare submittals for consultant signatures and processes returned agreements for filing.
  • Assist in the preparation of agreements and development of exhibits for other agencies and support groups with input from Olympic Region project offices.
  • Assist in the coordination and review of nonstandard agreements
  • Review WSDOT project documents for Region Review and development services project documents for PFA PS&E and other design documentation submittals.
  • Review PS&E documents to ensure overall completeness accuracy and adherence to WSDOT policy and design criteria.


Qualifications

This is a Transportation Engineer 2 position. However the hiring manager reserves the right to fill the position at a lower level in theclassification seriesbased on candidate qualifications providing an opportunity for an individual to gain the required experience on the job as part of a formal in-training plan.


To be considered for this opportunity at the Transportation Engineer 1 (TE1) level the following competencies are required:

  • Engineering Fundamentals:Foundational knowledge of basic engineering and mathematical principles to solve routine engineering problems typically gained through education experience training or certification (EIT or LSIT). Ability to apply this knowledge to design construction and inspection tasks.


To be considered for this opportunity at the Transportation Engineer 2 (TE2) level the following competencies are required:

  • Engineering Knowledge:Comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of engineering principles methods and practices relevant to transportation projects. This includes experience in design development construction techniques material testing procedures and/or contract administration.


In addition to the above the following are required at either level:

  • Analytical and Technical Review: Skills to examine develop and propose alternate solutions to complex elements of a project. Experience in reviewing engineering plans and specifications for compliance with established standards.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in operating Windows-based computers and MS Office applications including Excel Outlook SharePoint and Word as well as databases and computer-aided engineering software.
  • Communication Skills:Skills to communicate technical information effectively and professionally to a diverse audience including those with non-technical backgrounds virtually by phone and in person.
  • Collaboration & Adaptability:Skills to work productively both independently and a part of a team environment prioritizing workload and handling multiple assignments producing accurate and consistent results.
  • Respectful Workplace: Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth and takes action to meet the needs of others.
  • Growth Mindset: Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth.
  • Service-Oriented: Takes action to meet the needs of others.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • Program Proficiency:Demonstrated knowledge in the use of InRoads and/or OpenRoads for design projects; knowledge in the use of MicroStation for plan sheet development.
