Job Summary
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Rochester NY
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift:
- Nights 3 12-hour shifts/$2289 Weekly
- Nights 4 12-hour shifts/ $2938 Weekly
Hours: 7:00 PM 7:00 AM
Position Summary
We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RN) for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) on a 13-week contract assignment. The PCU cares for adult acute-care patients requiring a higher level of monitoring and intervention than a general medical-surgical unit. This role demands strong clinical judgment cardiac monitoring expertise and the ability to manage higher patient ratios in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult PCU patients with complex medical needs
Manage patient ratios of 1:5 to 1:7 similar to high-acuity Med-Surg care
Continuously monitor telemetry and pulse oximetry for all assigned patients
Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias and respond to clinical changes
Initiate and manage IV therapy including peripheral line care and phlebotomy
Administer oxygen therapy via nasal cannula face masks and portable oxygen tanks
Provide non-invasive airway management including BiPAP support
Care for patients with arterial lines central lines and titrated IV medication infusions
Receive and transition patients from the Emergency Department PACU ICU and Med-Surg units
Collaborate with physicians respiratory therapists and multidisciplinary teams
Utilize Rapid Response and Code Teams during patient emergencies
Accurately document patient care and interventions in the Epic EMR
Deliver vigilant compassionate and patient-centered care in a dynamic clinical environment
Required Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of recent PCU Telemetry or high-acuity Med-Surg experience
Strong competency in cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
Experience with IV therapy peripheral line care and emergency response
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced high-acuity setting
Epic EMR experience (required)
Certifications & Licensure
BLS (AHA)
ACLS
Active New York State RN License
