Position Overview
This is a senior nursing leadership role with 24/7 operational accountability for one or more Progressive Care Units (PCU) within a high-acuity acute care setting. Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer the Director of PCU is responsible for driving clinical excellence operational efficiency financial stewardship and team development.
The ideal candidate is a visible hands-on leader who balances strategic oversight with day-to-day engagement ensuring high-quality patient outcomes exceptional patient experience and strong staff engagement while maintaining fiscal discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Quality & Safety
Ensure compliance with nursing standards regulatory requirements and patient safety protocols
Lead interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize patient outcomes
Drive evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement initiatives
Maintain accountability for departmental operating and capital budgets
Service & Patient Experience
Champion patient- and family-centered care models
Ensure consistent application of service excellence behaviors (e.g. AIDET Teach-Back safety rounding)
Serve as a visible leader promoting empathy communication and professionalism
People Leadership
Lead mentor and develop nursing leadership and frontline teams
Support onboarding competency development and succession planning
Foster a high-performing accountable and engagement-driven culture
Growth & Performance Improvement
Identify and execute operational improvement opportunities across service lines
Support organizational growth through innovation best practices and outcome-driven strategies
Maintain ongoing personal and professional development aligned with executive leadership expectations
Financial Stewardship
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
Masters degree in Nursing preferred
Active Texas RN license or compact license with Texas as the primary state
BLS and ACLS certifications required
Minimum of 2 years of recent PCU acute care leadership experience at the Director or Manager level
