Lead Mechanic

Position Summary:

Saiia Construction Company LLC a MasTec Company is currently hiring for a Lead Mechanic in the Chester VA area.

This is a night shift position working Sunday - Thursday 7pm-7am. The Lead Mechanic is responsible for leading and directing Fuel & Lube Techs along with other onsite position will occasionally travel and perform work at various jobsite locations.

• Be knowledgeable of the hazards and safety requirements of the job and utilize required personal protective equipment (welders shield etc.).
• Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
• Examine critical parts and operating components of heavy equipment for possible wear and tear defects or other damage.
• Perform routine maintenance checks on company owned and/or leased vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and longevity of the vehicle/equipment.
• Repair replace clean and lubricate vehicle/equipment parts as necessary.
• Examine and repair if necessary hydraulic components for fluid leaks ruptured hoses or worn gaskets.
• Use hand-held computers or other diagnostic devices to diagnose components in need of adjustment or repair.
• Use jacks cranes and various hand-held tools to dismantle and reassemble parts.
• May be required to replace engines repair hydraulic fluid pumps correct electrical problems.
• Start devices to test their performance.
• Pressure washing.
• Ability to operate various types of light and heavy equipment and over the road trucks for maneuvering into service and repair locations.
• Requests spare parts.
• Travel to job site to make repairs to heavy equipment as necessary.
• Maintains a high level of workplace housekeeping.
• Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Must have a mechanical aptitude.
• Working knowledge of diesel engine repair.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos.
• Ability to locate read understand and follow instructions outlined in SDS material safety data sheets
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format.
• Ability to prioritize tasks in accordance to urgency.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written verbal or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Must be available to work overtime as required for position.
• Cooperative punctual and detail oriented.
• Must be able to utilize electronic devices such as a smart phone to send and receive email and communicate from job site locations to corporate office and supervision.
• Must be able to work safely and follow all instructions related to Company policies and regulatory agencies during the performance of duties.
• Maintains a safe work environment and ensures all established Company safety rules procedures policies DOT OSHA and MSHA regulations are followed.
• Aerial Lift Operator Training Certification preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This position is the lead mechanic and is responsible for leading and directing Fuel & Lube Techs along with other onsite mechanics.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum one-year certification from college or technical school in fleet repairs or vehicle maintenance.
• Minimum six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Automotive Service Excellence Mechanics Certification (A.S.E Certification) preferred.

Work Environment:

• Flexible with hours as needed; may include some night work depending on project needs

• Exposure to dust smoke fumes odors grease oil chemicals wet slippery surfaces and hot/cold conditions
• Occasionally exposed to high precarious places; airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
• Works inside and outside.

License and Certifications:

• Must have and maintain a valid state issued Drivers License with driving record that meets Saiias risk management guidelines.

Travel:

• This position travels to / and or performs work at various jobsite locations.
