Summary:
Research Associate is a full-time position at the American Institute for Economic Research
(AIER). Research Associates collaborate with AIERs Research Team on new and ongoing
research projects in producing AIERs content and in delivering educational programs.
The Research Associate should have excellent research skills both quantitative and qualitative and have demonstrated abilities in writing and oral presentation. The Research Associate will work on literature reviews data collection and analysis drafting of articles and reports and the many miscellaneous questions that arise during AIERs research. The Research Associate should have experience working on research projects and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to support AIERs research mission.
The Research Associate will work on short- and long-term projects. These projects include writing for the AIER website articles for academic publication working on research reports presentations at conferences and other projects of the research team.
This Research Associate position also involves the operation of the Student Internship and
Graduate-Fellowship programs at AIER. This includes supervising undergraduate research
projects managing the delivery of the academic curriculum lecturing within that curriculum and facilitating reading discussions and workshops. A core duty of this position is providing direct onsite mentoring to the participants in these programs.
In addition to the above duties the Research Associate will conduct their own independent
research and writing projects that align with AIERs mission under the supervision of the Faculty.
Location: Great Barrington MA with travel to conferences and events as needed.
Requirements:
- Minimum of Masters degree in Economics PPE (Politics Philosophy and Economics) or a closely related field (preferably direct post-graduate economics training)
- Intellectual curiosity a love of economics and a desire to continually learn
- Skills and demonstrated ability to manage and engage with student participants
- Skill and demonstrated ability in researching and writing for both academic and popular-press forums.
- Basic/intermediate skills in Excel
- Basic skills in STATA or another statistical package or willingness to learn
- High work ethic and the ability to drive forward a product and process without micro-management
- Excellent digital communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrable team management skills (strongly preferred)
- An understanding of the classical liberal scholarly tradition and ideas particularly as it pertains to economic questions
Expectations:
- Multitask across several projects with varying lengths
- Willingness to develop skills to match research team needs
- Cooperative spirit in working with a small team communication with research project leaders as well as a direct supervisor
- Ability to work independently and propose ideas to improve projects
- Ability to creatively manage a dynamic student program.
Pay Range:
$60486-$73000 annual salary depending on experience
