Founded in 2009 and incorporated as a standalone nonprofit in 2013 FNK has become a trusted leader in addressing food insecurity in Kansas Citys Northland. With an annual budget exceeding $650000 FNK is poised for continued growth and innovation to meet the needs of the community.
Overview of the Role:
Feed Northland Kids seeks a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors the Executive Director serves as the chief executive and primary fundraiser responsible for advancing FNKs mission vision and financial sustainability. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution overseeing operations managing staff and volunteers and serving as FNKs public ambassador.
Approximately 6570% of the EDs time will focus on fundraising and resource development with the remainder dedicated to program oversight community engagement and organizational management. Responsibilities
Fundraising & Resource Development
- Lead all fundraising efforts including major gifts grants corporate sponsorships annual giving and events.
- Build and maintain strong donor relationships and oversee grant writing and reporting.
- Develop strategies to diversify revenue streams and ensure financial sustainability.
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Drive FNKs strategic plan and identify opportunities for growth and innovation.
- Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to ensure measurable impact.
- Represent FNK as a leader in addressing food insecurity and child wellness.
Governance & Board Relations
- Collaborate with the Board on governance planning and fundraising initiatives.
- Provide regular organizational updates and support Board development and engagement.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Serve as FNKs spokesperson and advocate for child food security.
- Strengthen partnerships with schools civic groups and community organizations.
- Oversee marketing and communications to amplify FNKs mission.
Organizational Management
- Manage staff volunteers and contractors while fostering a positive mission-driven culture.
- Oversee operations budgeting compliance and vendor relationships.
- Ensure financial and administrative systems support transparency and efficiency.
Programs & Events
- Oversee hunger-relief programs and ensure operational excellence.
- Plan and execute major events including FNKs signature Bill Cross 5K Run/Walk.
Qualifications
- Minimum three years of nonprofit leadership experience in an organization of similar size/scope with demonstrated success in fundraising and development.
- Proven ability to secure significant donations and cultivate long-term donor relationships.
- Strong financial acumen with a demonstrated ability to create manage and analyze budgets and financials.
- Outstanding presentation and communication skills; comfortable serving as lead spokesperson relationship builder and fundraiser.
- Coalition building skills with the ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to increase public and private support from multiple funding sources.
- Experience developing and working closely with a diverse Board of Directors.
- Demonstrated commitment to FNKs mission and an understanding of community-based nonprofit work.
- Strong ties within Clay and Platte Counties preferred.
- Passion idealism integrity positive attitude mission-driven and self-directed and adaptive leadership style.
- Bachelors degree required; preferred in nonprofit management business or related field.

Compensation & Work Environment
- Salary Range: Commensurate with experience anticipated range of $90000 - $115000.
- Benefits: The benefits package can be customized to meet the needs of the successful candidate and may include a health insurance stipend paid vacation and holidays employer retirement contribution and professional development support.
- Work Environment: Office-based with flexibility for remote work. The role involves regular collaboration with community partners and occasional attendance at evening or weekend events related to organizational programs and fundraising activities.
