We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) to join our Charlotte NC office and play a key leadership role in the delivery of technically complex electrical and communications systems for new construction and retrofit projects.
Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer is a technical and project leadership role responsible for the independent design quality control and execution of electrical and communications systems for military federal industrial and commercial facilities. This individual will serve as Engineer of Record on assigned projects lead design efforts from concept through construction and mentor junior engineers while collaborating closely with architectural mechanical structural and civil disciplines.
This role requires a strong combination of hands-on technical expertise project management acumen and leadership capability with the confidence to take projects from early planning through final construction close-out.
Experience working on Department of Defense or secure federal facilitiesincluding an understanding of active military environments mission continuity and compliance requirementsis highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design & Engineering Leadership
Lead the planning design and execution of electrical power lighting grounding fire alarm communications and low-voltage systems for new construction and renovation projects.
Independently develop complete design packages including drawings specifications calculations and cost estimates.
Apply advanced engineering principles codes standards and judgment to solve complex technical challenges and adapt designs to unique facility requirements.
Serve as Engineer of Record (DOR) and provide professional seal where applicable.
Quality Control & Regulatory Compliance
Perform comprehensive quality control (QC) reviews of internal and subcontractor electrical and communications designs.
Review consultant-prepared drawings and specifications identifying design corrections and ensuring compliance with applicable codes standards and federal regulations.
Ensure designs comply with NEC UFC NFPA DoD criteria and other governing authorities.
Project Execution & Client Support
Manage scopes of work schedules budgets and resources for assigned projects.
Conduct site visits to document existing conditions verify constructability and support design development.
Support proposal development efforts including scope definition fee estimates schedules and technical narratives.
Evaluate contractor bids participate in feasibility studies and support construction phase services.
Review construction inspection reports and prepare payment recommendations.
Construction Administration
Provide technical support during construction including submittal review RFI responses and field coordination.
Participate in inspections and project close-out activities to ensure design intent and quality standards are met.
Mentorship & Team Leadership
Mentor train and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining accountability for quality schedule and budget.
Contribute to the development of internal standards processes and best practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
8 years of progressive electrical engineering experience including leadership on complex building or infrastructure projects.
Proven experience delivering projects from concept through construction.
Strong working knowledge of NEC NFPA UFC and applicable federal design standards.
Experience preparing construction documents specifications and cost estimates.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting Department of Defense or federal facilities including secure or mission-critical environments.
Familiarity with active military installations and operational constraints.
Prior experience as Engineer of Record on large or complex projects.
Experience mentoring junior engineers in a consulting environment.
Security clearance (active or ability to obtain) is a plus.
