Job Summary
Summary of Responsibilities:
This role is a critical part of Lubrizols Chemical Design & Synthesis (CDS) organization focused on inventing designing characterizing and developing new molecules with a specific emphasis on hyperdispersant chemistries for Paints & Coatings applications. The successful candidate will combine hands-on research expertise with leadership skills to guide a small technical team and ensure safe efficient laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Innovation & Research
- Invent design and synthesize novel molecules and polymeric dispersants.
- Perform hands-on laboratory work including synthesis characterization and testing.
- Develop structureperformance relationships to guide formulation and product development.
- Conduct independent synthetic research in a multidisciplinary environment.
Laboratory Leadership
- Lead and mentor a small team (13 junior chemists) fostering technical growth and collaboration.
- Oversee daily synthesis laboratory operations ensuring compliance with Lubrizols HSES standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Champion safe operations in corporate technology labs at the Singapore site and maintain strong engagement with local HSES leadership.
Communication & Collaboration
- Document interpret and communicate experimental results to colleagues sponsors and customers.
- Collaborate effectively within a matrixed organization working across global teams and business units.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Organic or Polymer Chemistry
- 5-10 years of industrial experience in chemical design synthesis and product development of organic and/or polymeric compounds
- Proven ability to lead small technical teams and deliver results through collaboration
- Background in controlled/living polymerization techniques preferred
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication abilities with fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese
