Job Summary

This role will support an ambitious multi-country multi-million-dollar project to be implemented in Kenya Tanzania Malawi Senegal and Ghana. The project aims to accelerate the uptake and use of lifesaving tools for the prevention diagnosis and management of pre-eclampsia and maternal anaemia which are amongst the two major contributors to maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in low-resource settings. To achieve this the project will generate evidence on the feasibility and acceptability of enhanced models of care for pre-eclampsia and maternal anaemia using new and underutilised products support community demand and engagement address systemic barriers to ensure availability of key products and work to ensure uptake and scale within the focus countries regionally and globally.

 

Reporting to the Country Manager (Malawi Country Office) the Project Manager will provide strategic and managerial leadership for all project activities in Malawi working closely with Consortium partners to guide the strategic design implementation and scale-up of lifesaving products and models of care for managing pre-eclampsia (PE) and maternal anaemia (MA) including leading community engagement and demand generation activities. The Project Manager will work closely with the Ministry of Healths Reproductive Health Directorate to engage high-level stakeholders advocate for policy support and increased demand and strengthen partnerships with NGOs and key actors.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic oversight and project management across all Supreme Lifelines project activities in Malawi to ensure partners are working together to achieve the strategic objectives including close collaboration with Jhpiego and Market Access Africa (MAA) to develop a shared country work plan.
  • Provide technical leadership to demand creation and community engagement activities to support increased community demand for ANC and pre-eclampsia and maternal anemia services including participatory activities to design approaches and oversight of contracted CSOs to implement activities.
  • Lead health literacy and advocacy activities at national levels including working with professional associations to support uptake.
  • Coordinate and lead government and stakeholder engagements across the different project outputs towards the ultimate objectives of uptake and scale including leading co-creation activities with key country stakeholders and coordinating governance mechanisms to ensure ongoing engagement.
  • Plan and lead strategic approaches and catalytic interventions at the national level towards national uptake and scale including advocacy for policy support and system strengthening interventions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external partners and stakeholders in the health sector and beyond including harnessing opportunities for collaboration and joint advocacy.
  • Provide oversight and management on budget reporting and compliance for Amrefs Supreme Lifelines activities in Malawi.
  • Work with CHAI and WACI Health to coordinate the Country Community Advisory Board
  • Supervise the Project Officer

 


Qualifications :

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Nursing and Midwifery with relevant MNCH experience. A Masters degree in a clinical field or public health will be an added advantage.
  • Should have at least five years (5) years relevant work experience in MNCH and Reproductive Health field in Malawi or within the Southern Africa region and at least 3 years at a supervisory level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with government representatives for-profit private sector entities local community organizations donors and other stakeholders.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Technical understanding of maternal health so able to confidently discuss products and technical areas
  • Technical experience in demand generation and community engagement approaches
    • Desirable: Experience in gender-transformative approaches
  • Experience in health system strengthening particularly in the uptake and sustainability of innovations
    • Desirable: Experience in climate adaptation/climate resilience in health systems
    • Desirable: Experience or understanding of health financing considerations
    • Desirable: Understanding of product access and supply chain considerations
  • Previous experience of leading strategic/catalytic engagements
  • Skills in strategic stakeholder engagement and program implementation
  • Desirable: Previous experience of taking part in implementation research
