THE POSITION
TheTraffic Signing/Marking Technician II is a journey-level position responsible for performing a wide range of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the installation maintenance and repair of traffic signs and street markings. Working under direction the technician operates specialized equipment to apply and remove pavement markings designs and fabricates traffic and street name signs and ensures the safe and effective placement of traffic control devices. This role plays a critical part in maintaining roadway safety and efficiency by ensuring that signage and markings are clear accurate and compliant with federal state and local regulations. The technician also assists with inventory management prepares daily work reports and responds to emergency call-outs as needed contributing to the overall reliability and safety of the Citys transportation infrastructure.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a skilled and detail-oriented professional with hands-on experience in traffic marking and sign fabrication. They possess a strong working knowledge of traffic control practices paint types marking materials and geometric layouts and can operate striping machines hydraulic paint equipment and other specialized tools with precision. They are adept at using software and computer applications to design and construct custom signage and vehicle graphics. They can read and interpret blueprints specifications and manuals to ensure accuracy in their work. The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to safety consistently applying safe work practices while setting up work zones and operating traffic control devices. With at least three years of experience in traffic marking and sign fabrication they bring both technical expertise and practical problem-solving skills to the role. They are reliable collaborative and able to maintain effective working relationships with City staff management and the public while taking pride in contributing to the safety and functionality of the communitys streets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent; and three years of experience performing traffic marking and traffic sign fabrication; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
The Transportation Engineering Division assesses neighborhood and regional traffic concerns and implements corrective measures to enhance vehicle bicycle and pedestrian safety.
The staff works closely with the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) and adjoining agencies to insure consistency and uniformity with regional transportation programs. Our staff operates and maintains 201 traffic signals and 418 centerline miles of roadway signing and striping.
