The Canine Team plays a vital role in the daily care of all dogs in our shelter. Responsibilities include providing food and fresh water maintaining clean and sanitary animal areas monitoring canine health and behavior and assisting the public with general information and adoptions. Team members must demonstrate compassion a positive attitude and strong customer service skills while serving as ambassadors for SPCA Florida by promoting our mission and programs to the community. Qualifications and Experience - Cleans and sanitizes cages kennels and runs to maintain sanitation standards and support animal health.
- Walks dogs multiple times per day ensuring safety and proper handling.
- Facilitates visits and positive interactions between animals and potential adopters.
- Performs routine housekeeping duties including laundry and dishwashing.
- Bathes animals as needed to maintain cleanliness and comfort.
- Observes animals for signs of illness injury disease or unusual behavior and promptly reports concerns to the Adoption Center Medical Team.
- Maintains disease control protocols and cleans public areas throughout the day.
- Learns basic duties of other departments and provides support to staff as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Environment and Physical Demands The work environment and physical demands described below are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. - Ability to perform physical work including scrubbing mopping lifting walking bending and standing.
- Ability to stand and be on ones feet for up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance and safely handle and maintain control of dogs weighing up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Moderate to high physical activity including performance of somewhat strenuous daily tasks involving both operational and administrative responsibilities.
- Potential exposure to dangerous or fractious animals.
- Potential exposure to high noise levels particularly in kennel areas.
- Potential risk of animal bites or scratches while handling animals.
Shift and Schedule Information - This is a full-time position requiring availability for 40 hours per week.
- SPCA Florida operates seven (7) days a week; therefore availability to work weekends and holidays is required.
