Job Summary

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:We are looking for a dynamic educator to join our community as an English Language Arts (ELA) teacher on one of our 8th-grade teams. The candidate will teach the DESE ELA curriculum. It is imperative that the candidate demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the middle school team philosophy as well as the middle school child. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:Curriculum Instruction and Assessment: Demonstrate knowledge of the subject area. Designs and implements appropriate instruction of ELA for the assigned grade level in accordance with students needs District curriculum and State standards. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of district and school curriculum goals. Establish clear objectives for all lessons units projects and communicate these objectives to students. Plan instruction based upon explicit goals regarding what students should know and be able to do. Use assessment data to inform instruction. Assess student learning on a regular basis using multiple forms of assessment; provide reports of student progress as needed. Create or provide learning experiences that develop students abilities and require the application of thinking skills. Employ a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels. Organize instruction around essential questions or core learning objectives; teach for understanding and/or mastery; provide students with practice and extension opportunities as needed. Create a classroom learning environment that is engaging orderly secure and appealing for students and in which mutual respect is practiced. Work cohesively with the special education liaison and other support staff to provide a more productive environment for students on educational plans. Professional Culture: Carry out the schools disciplinary code and procedures in a fair and just manner. Give assignments that reinforce classroom instruction. Communicate student progress and development to parents/guardians. Provide written assessments referrals and evaluations when necessary for students with special needs. Participate in IEP and 504 meetings as required. Model learning and behavior consistent with the expectations for students. Attend staff or team meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students. Supervises students in the hallways before after and in between classes in the library and at special events. Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents community staff and students. Complies with applicable District state local and federal laws rules and regulations. Attends work regularly and is punctual. Teaching All Students: Understanding of social emotion challenges facing middle school students and an ability to assist students in developing appropriate coping strategies. Provide direct support to students in a classroom by delivering instruction and ensuring learning through a variety of models and strategies. Employ a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels. Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum lessons and learning environment. Instruction can be provided within the regular classroom setting resource setting or small classroom setting. Design classroom activities and lessons with multiple levels so that all students both meet their IEP goals and can access the curriculum. Formally and informally assess the student learning (rather than relying solely on standardized curriculum) to create a comprehensive learning program. Set high expectations that are suitable based on students needs. Create a classroom learning environment that is engaging orderly secure and appealing for students and in which mutual respect is and Community Engagement: Build a partnership with families encouraging their active participation in students learning. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral programs of their students through conferences written messages telephone calls and/or email. Communicate student progress and development to parents/guardians.
