The Human Resources team in the King County Prosecuting Attorneys Office is in search of our next teammate and partner in doing Justice on all things internal people operations! As a separately elected department the PAO has an internal HR team that is housed within our Purpose Strategy & Performance team (administration) and partners closely with executive branch departments. This Payroll Coordinator/Human Resources Generalist position is an opportunity to care for our team in collaborative and equitable ways. Job Duties

  • Provide regular support and coverage for payroll production processing and/or timekeeping transactions using various software programs including PeopleSoft modules overtime attendance holiday pay leave donations retro pay over payment collect back and all other routine maintenance functions ensuring compliance with all relevant labor contracts and review and prepare payroll reports forms and year-end processes as needed.
  • Support comprehensive PAO-wide leave administration that integrates FMLA/KCFML WAPFML PPL workers compensation workplace accommodations Federal Law State Law union contracts applicable County policies and ordinances and other related programs or systems including administrative and payroll aspects of leave administration.
  • Provide support and coverage for Human Resources Information Management (HRIM) and position management in all divisions of the PAO including creation of new positions new hire entry deactivation of inactive roles step increases PCN entry position reconciliation and year-end processes.
  • Coordinate new employee onboarding experience to include scheduling of all necessary appointments processing paperwork and tickets and welcoming new employees by conducting PAO HR onboarding.
  • Draft business communications related to hiring and personnel changes including offer letters transfer letters promotion letters assignment-based pay etc.
  • Collaborate and liaise with partners as needed including executive branch central agencies (Business Resource Center Department of Human Resources Central Payroll the Office of Labor Relations Class/Comp AFIS etc.)
  • Utilize tools such as Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook SharePoint) NEOGOV PeopleSoft Laserfiche and Power BI to create and maintain documents spreadsheets tracking tools PeopleSoft queries and records management
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

  • Experience performing high-volume transactions related to personnel or payroll and working within standard processes/systems; OR any combination of experience and education that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of this position.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling records data and documentation with an ability to research compile and reconcile information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to learn processes quickly and apply them efficiently organize tasks manage multiple priorities and maintain effective workflow.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Word Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with individuals from all backgrounds and an ability to maintain confidentiality security and discretion at all times.
  • Ability to respond professionally under pressure meet strict deadlines and adapt to unanticipated requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive helpful customer service in person in writing and by phone.
  • Ability to build trust collaborate with teams and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to identify issues evaluate options and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to streamline processes improve workflows and anticipate needs.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and sound judgment in complex or time-sensitive situations.
  • Commitment to ongoing cultural competence development and alignment with the PAOs RESJ principles.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check which will include being fingerprinted.

The most competitive candidates will possess:

  • Knowledge of/experience in payroll production processes and procedures record keeping and monitoring procedures in King County.
  • Significant knowledge and experience using Oracle Systems PeopleSoft BI Insight and BI Publisher.
  • Experience interpreting labor contracts in a unionized workforce and ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Familiarity and/or the ability to interpret relevant employment laws regulations and policies and procedures.

Supplemental Information

Work Schedule: Monday Friday; core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime eligible.

Location: King County Courthouse in Seattle and other locations as needed. This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 2 days/week in-office (with Monday as a required in-office day) as business needs allow subject to a telecommuting agreement and supervisor approval. Employees who are new to the King County Prosecuting Attorneys Office are required to work 3-4 days in-person each week for the first six months of employment. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
