The Cancer Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center provides state-of-the-art cancer care through personalized treatment plans clinical excellence and compassionate support.

The Department of Pharmacy is seeking an Evening Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to join our team and support the expanding inpatient hematology/oncology and cellular therapy services. This role is an integral part of a multidisciplinary care team responsible for reviewing individualized care plans to ensure safe effective and cost-effective treatment.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with physicians nurses and other healthcare professionals
Provide clinical oversight and verify medication orders to ensure optimal therapy
Precept pharmacy students and residents
Provide patient education and discharge counseling
Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies protocols and treatment guidelines
Support education quality improvement initiatives and research aligned with the Cancer Centers mission of delivering exceptional care and advancing medical discovery

Job Description:

1. Practices in accordance with the state and federal laws rules and regulations including but not limited to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy Department of Public Health the Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Maintains certification and credentials in accordance with the Board of Registration and adheres to institutional policies and procedures.

2. Reviews and verifies medication orders with consideration including but not limited to the following patient specific parameters: diagnosis weight/body surface area age allergies organ function laboratory values medication duplication drug interactions. Clarifies orders deemed to be inappropriate incomplete or otherwise unclear with the prescriber in a timely manner.

3. Documents and communicates pertinent information and discussion with the healthcare team and pharmacy staff to ensure continuity of care.

4. Provides drug information to physicians nurses and other health care professionals.

5. Checks and verifies sterile and non-sterile medications.

6. Supervises the activities of students technicians and residents within the pharmacist area of practice.

7. Promotes a culture of patient safety by submitting medication related events and near misses.

8. Completes daily pharmacy surveillance tool monitoring including follow-up and documentation as well as other daily patient care initiatives and relevant reports.

9. Works collaboratively with all pharmacists pharmacy technicians and pharmacy personnel. Upholds a culture of respect and teamwork across the Pharmacy Department.

10. Participates in the onboarding and training of new hires and precepts pharmacy students and/or residents through core clinical rotations or learning experiences.

11. Regularly participates in department initiatives including but not limited to supporting formulary stewardship presenting new medication requests at Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee creating and maintaining policies and procedures conducting assessments of workflows and/or developing departmental tools and resources.

12. Supports departmental workgroups to improve process and quality outcomes.

13. Supports the development and revision of departmental clinical guidelines.

14. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

1. PGY-1 Residency OR 1-3 years relevant hospital experience.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.

Pay Range:

$59.74 - $75.76

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors that may include seniority education training relevant experience relevant certifications geographyof work location job responsibilities or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials call pay premium pay overtime pay and other additional pay practices as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
