Shift: Rotating days/evenings

Job Summary
Provides technician services for the Emergency Department and Outpatient treatment area.

Essential Job Functions
Interviews the patient/guardian to accurately obtain and appropriately record the necessary information to complete the admitting process in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Provides clerical support on the unit.
- Assists nurses and ED providers with patient care and transfers within the hospital and to other facilities.
- Acts as a backup for the switchboard operator for breaks.
Other Job Duties:
- Assumes responsibility for professional self-development. Participates in in-services educational programs unit meetings (attend a minimum of 80% of unit meetings per year) and mandatory meetings
- Assist the Coordinator of the ED/OP as needed
- Assists in the orientation and development of personnel according to department needs and as directed
- Demonstrates the mission of the hospital is met by demonstrating the Core Values: Be Accessible determined to provide local interventional healthcare for the community.
- Be Helpful always help each other while caring for others.
- Be Knowledgeable knowledge applied thoughtfully to others.
- Maintenance of a professional appearance.
- Follows infection control procedures and universal precautions as applicable to work at hand according to established policy.
- Promotes and maintains confidentiality of information regarding patients families healthcare personnel and the facility.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in South Dakota
- Broad background or training in medical office procedures and standards and knowledge of computer software preferred
- Able to communicate congenially and in a professional manner with co-workers families and physicians
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work independently
- BLS required
- Cross training required
- High quality phone etiquette and customer service skills required
Physical Aspects of the Job
- Requires frequent walking standing sitting bending reaching stooping kneeling crouching talking hearing and moderate lifting
- Risks of exposure to communicable or infectious disease
- Subject to inside environmental conditions and to atmospheric conditions
- Able to assist nurses and providers with patient care as needed
