Job Summary

The Outdoor Education Program Supervisor is part of a team of passionate educators and learners committed to providing transformative concept-based outdoor science education experiences. They supervise seasonal staff and manage program logistics. They assist the manager with staff onboarding and the daily operation of the site. They contribute to dismantling barriers and increasing inclusion and accessibility for all staff and short they work to make camps a great place to live and work.

Supervisors get the opportunity to live work and play at our two locations: Camp Gray in Newport Oregon and Hancock Field Station located outside Fossil Oregon. Explore the natural beauty Oregon has to offer from the forests beaches and dunes of the Pacific coast to the canyons John Day River and fossil and archaeology sites of the central Oregon desert. Position runs January 2026 through November 2026 and includes spring outdoor school summer camp and fall outdoor school.

Qualified candidates will have but not limited to:

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors Degree:
    • Working knowledge of the concepts in Natural History and Ecology;
    • Examples of strong facilitation presentation and public speaking skills with small and large groups.
  • Prior classroom enrichment or youth engagement experience with an emphasis on positive behavior management principles;
  • Demonstrated experience and/or ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and talents in a seasonal work environment;
  • Demonstrated experience leading diverse groups of participants;
  • Demonstrated program management and/or project coordination experience;
  • Pre-employment checks such as criminal background checks reference checks and American Camp Association (ACA) background checks;
    • May require fingerprinting background checks based on school district requirements.
  • Current Wilderness First Responder certification:
    • If not certified training is available in February during non-working days at employees expense.
  • Current Adult & Pediatric First Aid and CPR/AED certification:
    • If not certified training is included in the February WFR certification course at employees expense.
  • Oregon Food Handlers Card:
    • If not certified cards are issued by completing an online test at employees expense.
  • Valid drivers license including meeting OMSIs driving standards which requires completing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check;
  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with airbrake and passenger endorsements and pass a pre-duty drug screen. Per Oregon law you must be 21 years of age with a minimum of 1 year of driving experience.
    • If not licensed training is available during non-working days. DMV testing and associated fees are at employees expense. Once licensed OMSI will reimburse select DMV fees.

The Outdoor Education Program Supervisor has a daily pay of $195.95 plus housing and meals and is eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes:

  • Up to 2 weeks of vacation per year with no waiting period.
  • Up to 2 weeks of sick time per year with no waiting period.
    • Rehires within a year will have their sick balance at the time of termination reinstated. (Hours accrue up to 520 hours and carry over year to year);
