Sequoias Community College District is seeking a qualified and equity-minded candidate to fill a full-time tenure-track position in the Emergency Medical Services (EMT) Department beginning August 2026. This position is located on the HanfordCampus with the Police and Fire Programs.


Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching College of the Sequoias EMT Program. Possible additional offerings depend on the expertise and preference of the successful candidate and could include courses in Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic (EMT-P).

  • Participates in the planning implementation coordination and evaluation of EMS educational program offerings.
  • Prepares and delivers instruction for the EMT program on-site or off-site as needed; supervises the activities of course participants during instructional time.
  • Fulfills EMS educational program administrative requirements to include calculation and submission of grades maintenance of program course and student/participant records and preparation and submission of data and reports.
  • Participates in continuing professional development programs as appropriate
  • Participates in activities that promotes the EMS programs to include student recruiting and program marketing events as appropriate
  • May lead guide and train staff/student employees interns may participate in the recruitment of assistant staff as appropriate to the area of operation
  • Commit to professional excellence by remaining current in the subject matter and techniques of effective instruction through participation in professional developmentprograms in areas such as multimedia in the classroom learning communities school-to-work initiatives and other new technologies that may affect the teaching discipline.
  • Be responsible for areas including but not limited to curriculum development course coordination and instruction.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the program director.

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process including but not limited to interactive technologies for on-campus and on-line courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours active engagement with campus culture participation in departmental responsibilities and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity which is respectful of diversity District wide.

Qualifications

The candidate must meet the following criteria.

  • An associates degree AND six (6) years of experience in an allied health field

OR

  • A bachelors degree AND two (2) years of experience in an allied health field
  • Be a Physician Registered Nurse Physician Assistant Paramedic or currently certified EMT or licensed in the State of California.
  • Be qualified by education and experience in methods materials and evaluation of instruction which shall be documented by at least forty (40) hours of instruction in teaching methodology. *
  • Be knowledgeable in the current course content of the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards
  • The equivalent


*Following but not limited to are examples of courses that meet the required instruction in teaching methodology:

(A) California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) Training Instructor 1A 1B and 1C or Instructor 1.

(B) National Fire Academy (NFA) Fire Service Instructional Methodology course and

(C) A course that meets the U. S. Department of Transportation/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 2002 Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructors such as the National Association of EMS Educators EMS Educator Course.

(D) NAEMSE Level 1 Level 2 Instructor Courses

JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY

The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 53022.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The EMT program is looking for evidence of the following:

  • Successful experience teaching students of ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Teaching experience in a clinical setting with out of hospital EMS related topics
  • Commitment to developing and updating instructional activities course syllabi course outlines and other necessary material.
  • Evidence of the ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods that encourage retention while successfully challenging a diverse student population.
  • Ability to incorporate student learning outcomes objectives within course and program and willingness to develop and use stated objectives and measures.
