The Principal Engineer is the first level in the Technical Title functional pathway and carries design authority as well as the expectation of technical expertise problem-solving skills communication skills people skills and contributions to the technical community. Principal Engineers are recognized technical experts in a specific aspect of a discipline and its application are effective mentors to early-career engineers are noted for their ability to communicate technical issues throughout the organization and are leaders applying science engineering theory processes standards best practices and lessons learned.

As a Principal Engineer you will be responsible for:

• Delivering engineering and scientific efforts related to the design of new products and services and new designs for customer projects.

• Leading delivery of projects through design verification production and commercialization stages.

• Coordinating closely with Discipline Research and Testing teams as needed.

• Performing rotor dynamic analysis.

• Performing electrical design tasks.

• Resolving customer issues.

• Providing shop troubleshooting including on-site visits when local personnel cannot resolve issues.

• Supporting the OTR Engineering Team in eliminating backlog and restoring predictable on-time deliverables.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Applying Mechanical Engineering principles combining physics chemistry and mathematics with materials science to design analyze manufacture and maintain mechanical systems.

• Understanding core disciplines: mechanics structural dynamics rotor dynamics thermodynamics fluid and aerodynamics materials science and structural analysis.

• Leveraging CAD CAM and product lifecycle management tools to create and analyze industrial equipment or processes such as fluid transport liquid/gas compression combustion and heating/cooling systems.
