Security Services responds to alarms and accidents provides emergency first aid and responds to unusual activity on campus 24/7. Security Services is considered an essential service within the University. Reporting to the Security Supervisor the Security Team Lead performs a broad range of customer services based security and public safety related duties to safeguard the staff students and public who access the Mount Royal University Campus as well as protect its buildings grounds and assets. Working as a member of the security team on shift the Security Team Lead rotates through a range of security and patrol tasking activities each day; this includes acting on behalf of the Security Supervisor when they are absent from the shift.
A key focus of the Security Team Lead job is to respond to calls for service act as a first responder to accidents on campus act as Security Dispatch and assist with emergency evacuations as well as complete physical patrols of Mount Royal University property to deter crimes against property and persons. Other major responsibilities include conducting investigations interviewing report writing taking statements and handling evidence. When acting on behalf of the Security Supervisor the Security Team Lead is responsible for providing supervision and direction to their security team on daily duties as well as guiding and coordinating a response to critical incidents on campus; this would include acting as the Senior University Official on campus as well as the Incident Commander during and emergency event. Security Services is considered an essential university service.
About the Role
The Team Lead is expected to perform all functions included in the Security Representative functions.
This position is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. The Team Lead will work eight ten and twelve hour shifts on a rotational basis.
Responsibilities
When the Security Supervisor is absent provide supervision to Security Representatives on assigned shifts and perform related organizational functions; this includes delegation of work training and noting performance management issues to report to the Security Supervisor.
Ensures that all policies and procedures relating to the job function and role of the Security Department are properly carried out in a manner that makes the campus as safe and secure as possible
Recognize and investigate all incidents and unusual occurrences suspicious persons safety concerns and maintenance issues
Monitor assess record and respond appropriately to all alarms appearing on the Intrusion Alarm system the Fire panel and CCTV system
Assess/accident scene and recommend assistance from external agencies such as EMS Calgary Police and Calgary Fire Department
Monitors buildings and facilities to ensure a safe environment
Proactively liaise with individuals organizations and groups on campus
Complete detailed and objective incident reports
Qualifications
Post-secondary certificate/program in combination with 18 - 24 months of related experience
Functioning knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada
Demonstrated supervisory skills
Valid First Aid CPR Certificate and AED Certificate
Demonstrated strong leadership communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated strong customer service skills
Ability to use independent judgement and troubleshoot/resolve issues and complaints
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Salary: $59386.60 - $ 75147.80 per annum
