JOB DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs a variety of administrative supervisory skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of parks grounds landscapes open spaces riverine trails athletic fields; parks buildings and facilities.
This position works under the administrative supervision of the Parks Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
Manages and supervises a crew responsible for an assigned number of parks public grounds and/or athletic fields; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains motivates disciplines and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans; coordinates department activities with other departments and agencies as needed.
Provides advice to supervisors; communicates official plans policies and procedures to staff and the administrative public in assigned area of responsibility.
Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; assures effective and efficient use of personnel materials facilities and time.
Determines work procedures prepares work schedules and expedites work flow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness neatness and conformance to policies and procedures.
Assists in interviewing and hiring process; assigns supervises and evaluates park maintenance workers temporary employees or community service workers.
Maintains harmony among workers and may deal with grievances.
Provides necessary supervision direction and assistance to crews at work sites. Enforces policies regulations and safety and health standards.
Determines calculates and secures the appropriate materials and supplies for specific projects.
Improves and streamlines work methods to accomplish assigned work.
Assists in projecting needs for equipment materials and supplies. Assists in the preparation of specifications estimates and bids for machinery equipment and contractor services.
Assures that tools and equipment are properly maintained and kept in proper working condition.
Prepares and maintains daily monthly and annual reports and records as assigned.
Responds to public inquiries; provides information within scope of knowledge and position.
Oversees and coordinates parks landscape median athletic field and riverine construction and maintenance.
Coordinates usage and maintenance schedules of athletic fields and facilities.
Oversees and assists in the mowing and maintenance of parks athletic fields and open spaces.
Oversees the installation management repair and efficient operation of the multiple irrigation systems in parks athletic fields and open spaces.
Oversees the seeding fertilizing top dressing soil conditioning watering and pest/weed control of parks athletic fields and open spaces.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various parks recreational programs special events; prepares facilities for park and recreation program use.
Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City
Opens and closes locks and unlocks City facilities as needed.
Assists in the construction of new parks facilities including clearing grading drainage irrigation and foundation work.
Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees officials and all members of the general public.
Inspect parks and open space services provided by contractors or vendors for compliance with performance standards.
Performs some or all of the duties of a Parks Maintenance Worker I II or III as required.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
Other duties as assigned.
Serves as a member of various employee committees as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City of Farmingtons Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing post-accident testing random testing reasonable suspicion testing return to duty testing and follow-up testing.
Extensive background checks required.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required.
Minimum five years progressive maintenance experience of parks landscapes or athletic fields which includes at least three years experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. At least two of the years experience with a park system or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Considerable knowledge in landscape management turf management and horticulture required.
Excellent organizational and supervisory skills required.
Considerable knowledge of equipment and materials used in parks and building maintenance repair and construction.
Extensive knowledge of irrigation system operation maintenance troubleshooting repair and installation.
Working knowledge of pesticides; New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) pesticide applicators license preferred.
Valid New Mexico drivers license with CDL endorsement with acceptable driving record for past three years or ability to obtain CDL with air brake endorsement within ninety days of entry into position.
Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule deadlines.
Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.
Ability to lift heavy objects walk and stand for long periods of time and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to understand follow and transmit written and verbal instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers supervisors other City personnel and the public.
Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
This position requires a baseline audiometric examination.
This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the Citys Environmental Health and Safety program.
