Job Summary

MMUUSD is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Transportation Fleet & Maintenance to support the safe efficient operation of the districts transportation fleet. This leadership role oversees fleet maintenance operations supervises mechanics and shop staff ensures regulatory compliance and performs advanced mechanical work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and evaluate mechanics and shop assistants.
  • Perform and oversee preventive maintenance diagnostics and repairs on school buses and district vehicles.
  • Maintain fleet service records inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Manage parts inventory warranties and vendor services.
  • Ensure compliance with all state federal and safety regulations.
  • Respond to mechanical emergencies and breakdowns.
  • Operate school buses as needed to support operations.
  • Assist with fleet budgeting planning and process improvements.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Transportation and district leadership.

Qualifications

  • Leadership and supervisory experience required.
  • Strong mechanical background in diesel or heavy vehicle maintenance including air brakes and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of student transportation safety regulations.
  • Strong organizational communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient computer skills (records spreadsheets databases).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and respond to emergencies.

Education & Certification

  • Bachelors or technical degree preferred; high school diploma with relevant technical experience required.
  • Valid CDL with required endorsements or ability to obtain within district timelines.
  • Additional technical certifications preferred.
