Scope of Project Climate
Analytics is currently implementing a project to develop an integrated methodology for attributing extreme heat events and their subsequent impacts in the Global South to human-induced climate change. This initiative establishes a robust framework that links greenhouse gas emissions to specific climate damages through quantitative allocation analysis adapts extreme event attribution science for climate-vulnerable regions and assesses the resulting socioeconomic impacts.

Scope of Consultancy

To ensure the projects success and local relevance Climate Analytics is now seeking to engage a local expert to perform one of the case studies: Karachi Pakistan. The consultant will conduct essential in-country activities including data collection background literature research and contextualizing the framework for the specific regional realities of Karachi Pakistan. The local experts work will include:
  • Contributing to the Socio-Economic Impact Assessment for the Karachi case study by gathering qualitative and quantitative data on the socio-economic impacts of extreme heat from non-traditional local sources including interviews and approaching local stakeholders for non-public data (e.g. hospitals health care providers local employers policy makers etc). Socio-economic impacts of interest include mortality morbidity andheat related losses inlabour productivityand income (including in informal employment) as well as othereffects such as poverty indebtedness caregiving responsibilities.
  • Performing background-literature research on current local heat-health adaptation interventions (policies programs pilot projects and other initiatives) to more comprehensively understand exposure and vulnerabilities of the focus geography.
  • Bring in local expertise on socio-economic context including local characteristics and social norms to be mindful of for the data evaluation.
Expected Deliverables

The consultant will be responsible for the following deliverables over the contract period:

Your profile
The ideal consultant is a professional locally-based in Karachi (Pakistan) with deep roots and proven experience in conducting field research and stakeholder engagement within the specific case study Qualifications:
  • Local Presence & Language: Must be physically based in or very near the case study location and fluent in the relevant local language.
  • Field Research Experience: Demonstrated experience in qualitative data collection such as conducting interviews facilitating focus groups or engaging with institutional stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Network & Access: Proven ability to navigate local institutions and communities. Existing contacts or a clear strategy for accessing key data sources.
  • Cultural & Contextual Understanding: Deep understanding of the socio-economic and cultural context of the case study location including the structure of the local labour market and health systems.
