About the role:

We are looking to recruit 4 Licensing Assistants on 2-year fixed term contracts to support the Councils Private Sector Housing enforcement and licensing functions.

Waltham Forest is designated as a Selective Licensing area in 20 of its 22 wards and was one of the first Councils to adopt and use powers to impose financial penalties as an alternative to prosecution proceedings. Waltham Forest also have a borough-wide Additional licensing to compliment Mandatory HMO Licensing.

The appointed assistants will provide administrative office and where necessary fieldwork support activities in relation to the licensing task force team within the Neighbourhoods and Environmental Directorate.

Displaying excellent verbal and written communication skills and flexibility in working patterns and practices. Successful candidates will play a central role in the delivery of licensing objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Communicate effectively with internal and/or external customers/service users. Act as point of contact for the service

To assist in ensuring that all Private Rented Property Licensing applications and associated matters are processed and resulting decisions are properly prepared and issued

Organise and maintain records and documents using the appropriate council process / system

To assist in the proper processing of the administrative function for Licensing; including data entry and liaising with Private Sector Housing & Licensing Compliance and Enforcement

Provide information and resolve problems within scope of role escalating to line manager as required

To work with colleagues and team managers to identify areas for improvement ensuring the support offer remains appropriate for all service users

Qualifications and Requirements:

Experience of having worked in a fast faced customer focused environment.

Excellent knowledge and application of IT systems and software packages.

Relevant legislative and or procedural knowledge for specialist area.

Ability to work with minimum supervision using problem solving skills and initiative to provide a customer focused support service.

Excellent levels of literacy and numeracy.

Ability to work flexibly balancing competing priorities and meeting deadlines whilst understanding the needs timescales and deadlines of others

Ability to identify improvements to processes and systems and to share the recommendations with the wider team
