The Opportunity
As part of our continued growth we are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is ideal for a professional with a solid accounting foundation who is looking to take the next step in their career within a growing organization. Reporting to the Manager of Finance the Intermediate Accountant will support full-cycle accounting month-end processes and financial reporting. This is a full-time position Monday to Friday based at our SE Edmonton office.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reconciliation and Reporting
Perform material reconciliations to ensure inventory and material costs align with financial records (due before the 5th of each month).
Complete corporate credit card reconciliations (due on the 1st of each month).
Prepare and review the Equipment Gross Margin Report to analyze the profitability of equipment usage (due before the 5th of each month).
Regulatory Compliance and Taxation
Prepare and submit GST/PST filings accurately and on time (due before month-end).
Prepare and submit union dues reports (due before the 15th of each month).
Job and Asset Management
Oversee the financial setup of new industrial and commercial projects as they are awarded.
Maintain accurate financial tracking for all projects in Spectrum and Procore.
Collaborate with Project Managers to identify projects at financial risk (Yellow Flag) or requiring senior management intervention (Red Flag).
Prepare and present weekly financial risk reports with key findings and recommended actions.
Act as the primary Procore Gatekeeper managing data imports and exports between Procore and Spectrum while ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
Manage fixed asset accounting including postings and depreciation schedules (monthly).
Process and record loan interest accrual entries as required.
Financial Planning and Analysis
Update and maintain Power BI dashboards to provide timely insights and analytics for management (every Tuesday before 8:00 a.m.).
Process equipment charge-off entries (monthly).
Update Salesforce financial reports (every Tuesday by 8:00 a.m.).
Operational Support
Represent Finance in WIP meetings to review ongoing projects and financial impacts.
Ensure timely submission of operational reports including the ISIT Hour Workbook.
Other Responsibilities
Handle ad hoc tasks and additional responsibilities to support the Finance department.
Assist with year-end reviews including preparing documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
What we are looking for
Diploma or degree in a business-related program preferably Accounting or Finance
CPA designation in progress or intent to pursue CPA is an asset but not required
35 years of progressive accounting experience preferably in construction industrial or project-based environments
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas pivot tables data analysis)
Experience or working knowledge of Power BI for reporting and data visualization
Solid understanding of accounting principles financial statements and bookkeeping
Working knowledge of GST/PST filings and regulatory compliance requirements
Experience supporting job costing WIP and project financial tracking
High attention to detail and accuracy when handling financial data
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
