Would you like to take your experience beyond your day-to-day office and make a statewide impact supporting communities and the infrastructure that keeps Michigan moving Do you enjoy innovation and continuous improvement As the next drainage and utilities specialist engineer with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) youll have the opportunity to work with new software as it becomes available test emerging tools and explore new ways of doing things helping the department evolve its design practices and stay at the forefront of technology.

This position offers a rare opportunity to move beyond region-level work and make a true statewide impact. As the next drainage and utilities specialist engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Serving as the statewide specialist to support the departments drainage and software programs including troubleshooting software issues or problems that can stall design processes and being responsible for development and delivery of software training programs for MDOT staff statewide and engineering consultant organizations.
  • Serving as the statewide specialist responsible for evaluating testing and improving drainage and utilities software as well as developing workflows to enable information management for MDOTs drainage systems and subsurface utilities.
  • Serving as the statewide specialist in charge of cells components and feature definitions for MDOTs custom drainage and utilities design libraries as well as being responsible for ensuring design codes and safety standards are incorporated into software programs correctly.
  • Providing general engineering support and back-up coverage for the Engineering Support Unit.
