The Burlington School District is seeking compassionate and flexible Intersect Tutor to provide individualized academic support to K12 students across the District. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working one-on-one with students building strong relationships and supporting learners who may be facing academic emotional or behavioral challenges.
The Intersect Tutor is an on-call non-benefited position with flexible but inconsistent hours based on student referrals and tutor availability. Tutors may work with up to three students per day providing approximately two hours of instruction per student. Schedules are determined by student needs and caseload and do not constitute a full-time position.
This role also includes collaboration with UVM Medical Center Childrens Hospital. Referrals for instruction at the hospital are initiated by UVM with BSD serving as the instructor of record. Tutors may be asked to provide instructional support at the hospital as part of their assigned hours.
Provide one-on-one academic instruction to K12 students in school home or hospital settings as assigned.
Support students who may be experiencing academic emotional or behavioral challenges that impact learning.
Develop and maintain positive supportive relationships with students to promote engagement and success.
Collaborate with school staff administrators and related service providers as needed.
Adapt instruction to meet individual student needs and learning goals.
Maintain communication and documentation related to student progress and services provided.
Travel to multiple sites including schools and UVM Medical Center Childrens Hospital as required.
Maintain professionalism confidentiality and adherence to District policies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelors degree preferred; candidates currently pursuing a degree in education or a related field will be considered.
Experience:
Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or support role preferred.
Teaching licensure is not required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with students.
Demonstrated ability to support students with diverse academic emotional and behavioral needs.
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic on-call work environment.
Ability to work independently while also collaborating with school-based teams.
Sound judgment patience and professionalism when working with students and families.
Commitment to student advocacy and relationship-based support.
Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
