POSITION SUMMARY
Utility System technician performs semi-skilled labor and equipment operations in the maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. It is a mandatory requirement of this position to work overtime take weekend and on-call duty for emergency work such as water main breaks sewer backups and after-hours customer service. Must be able to respond within one hour when on call. This is a safety-sensitive position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs maintenance construction repair replacement and installation of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems in the Citys service area.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities of all Utility Systems Technicians (I-IV).
- Maintains and operates the water distribution systems through repair routine maintenance installations sampling utility locations and assists in the excavation and repair of water lines and related infrastructure.
- Maintain the wastewater collection system through repair installation routine maintenance cleaning and inspection tasks.
- Takes a lead role in the field utilizing years of experience to assist with the direction of work and provides leadership and instruction to other employees.
- Transfers vast experience knowledge skills and abilities by providing on-the-job training of USTs by coaching mentoring monitoring and training.
- Reads and interprets a variety of maps plans construction diagrams as-built drawings and survey data to plan and execute fieldwork and projects.
- Calculates main flushing rates water volumes disinfection dosages and pumping rates for the safe efficient and effective maintenance repair and operation of distribution and collection
- Performs MUTCD compliant traffic control and safe work zone
- Assists in and performs excavation work around utility lines and other excavation
- Practices trench safety and confined space entry in accordance with regulations.
- Places sheeting shoring shielding and other devices to secure excavations as necessary.
- May move set or place infrastructures such as manholes pipes valves hydrants and other structures and system appurtenances.
- Investigates water breaks customer complaints sewer backups and/or overflow events and provides interpretive information to organize an effective response.
- Notifies customers of the necessity for interruption of water service and other issues.
- Performs cuts taps threads pipe and makes copper plastic iron or other joint
- Assists in the maintenance of the Facility and other property grounds and
- Locates appurtenances such as valves meters manholes and air reliefs using section maps or electronic detectors
- Takes all precautions to protect employees and the public at worksites and to ensure the safety of Englewoods water supply and the environment.
- Replace repair and maintain water meters wells and
- Safely operates jet trucks dump trucks valve machines vacuum excavators and other equipment and tools in the performance of daily operations and duties.
- Operates backhoes track-hoes mini-excavators and other excavation equipment with appropriate certification
- Performs tasks requiring basic carpentry painting and concrete
- Performs sewer service requests and post-incident investigations often using a TV truck or other video inspection equipment.
- Determines staging and logistics of collection system smoke and dye test projects to accurately detect and document sources of excess I&I for their scheduled repair.
- Uses tablets control pads laptops and other electronic devices to report and complete work orders and inspections in an accurate and timely manner.
- Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and
- Is available for after-hours callouts for emergencies and maintains reliable and regular
- Locates leaks and makes repairs to steel ductile iron cast iron PVC and copper
- Uses electronic radio detection devices to locate and mark Englewoods underground

- Assists in training personnel in the correct procedures and techniques used in performing wastewater collection and water distribution functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned and required. May serve as Duty Supervisor

- High School Diploma or GED

- Utilities System Tech in Training: None
- Utilities System Tech I: Minimum of 1-year experience in a related field.
- Utilities System Tech II: Minimum of 2 years experience in a related field.
- Utilities System Tech III: Minimum of 3 years experience in a related field.
- Utilities System Tech IV: Minimum of 4 years experience in a related field.
Certifications and/or Licensures:
- Utilities System Tech in Training:None
- Utilities System Tech I: Distribution or Wastewater Collection Class I Certification within 1 year of employment.
- Utilities System Tech II: Distribution or Wastewater Collection Class II Certification
- Utilities System Tech III: Distribution or Wastewater Collection Class III Certification Utilities System Tech IV: Distribution or Wastewater Collection Class IV Certification
Required Drivers License:
- Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License within 6 months of employment
