Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager Career Services for Immigrant Professionals the Career Coach Professional Engagement provides individualized career coaching and professional engagement support to internationally educated immigrant professionals. This role supports delivery of services under the Directions for Immigrants contract with a focus on helping clients achieve employment accreditation and career advancement goals.
The Career Coach works closely with clients employers recruiters community organizations and immigrant-serving agencies to expand professional networks and employment opportunities. Success in this role requires strong knowledge of the Canadian labor market accreditation pathways and contract deliverables along with the ability to balance client service stakeholder engagement and administrative requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Career Coaching & Client Services
- Provide one-on-one career coaching to internationally educated immigrant professionals.
- Conduct client intakes interviews and ongoing case management to assess needs and progress.
- Support clients in job search strategies including resumes interviews networking information interviews and use of social media platforms.
- Assist clients in understanding how their education skills and experience translate to the Canadian labor market.
- Develop individualized action plans aligned with employment and accreditation goals.
- Support employed clients with job retention strategies.
- Address barriers related to motivation confidence attitudes and employability skills.
- Research and maintain up-to-date information on occupations accreditation pathways and labor market trends.
- Generate and update occupational profiles and employment resources.
- Ensure contract outcomes are met including employment placements and exam preparation study group results.
Workshops Groups & Learning
- Facilitate employment-focused workshops and group sessions.
- Develop organize coordinate and deliver exam preparation study groups and workplace communication groups.
- Create and adapt learning materials for individual and group coaching sessions.
Professional & Industry Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with employers recruiters community organizations and immigrant-serving agencies.
- Initiate employer outreach through cold calling and existing networks to create employment and networking opportunities for clients.
- Arrange information sessions and guest speakers in collaboration with the career coaching team.
- Liaise with licensing bodies service providers and organizations to support client pathways.
- Assist employers with recruitment needs and addressing skill shortages.
- Coordinate and support professionals who volunteer to mentor or network with clients.
- Represent Bow Valley College at community and industry events.
- Support onboarding and mentorship of new casual career coaches.
Administration & Reporting
- Document all client interactions and services in the Government of Alberta client tracking system in compliance with funder requirements.
- Maintain accurate client files reports and program data.
- Track key performance indicators and ensure monthly and annual targets are achieved.
- Monitor enrollment in workshops and study groups and coordinate follow-up actions.
- Collaborate with team members to promote services internally and externally.
- Support the Manager with month-end invoicing and reporting.
Other Duties
- Provide coverage for team members as required.
- Participate in events and perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma in Career Development Social Sciences Business Education or Human Services.
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Career Development Social Sciences Business Education or Human Services.
- Minimum of 3 years experience providing services to a diverse clientele.
- Career coaching or employment counseling experience.
- Strong group facilitation and workshop delivery skills.
- Knowledge of accreditation processes for internationally educated professionals.
- Sound understanding of labor market trends and career development theories.
- Familiarity with career development assessment tools and inventories.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent communication skills with high levels of diplomacy tact and professionalism.
- Strong networking relationship-building and employer engagement skills.
- Highly organized with strong time management and ability to multitask.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team.
