Job Summary

Position Overview:
The Principal Civil Engineerwillbe responsible forleading the design development and implementation ofcutting-edgecivilsystems in highly efficient scalable and sustainable data centers. This role involves working with cross-functional teams to ensure best-in-classcivilsystems that support massive cloud operations across multiple regions.


The candidatemustbe aleader but also atechnical expert incivilengineering with a deep understanding of data center operations sustainability initiatives and reliability of all aspects ofcivilengineering a subject matter expert you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilitiesprovidetechnical guidance solve large scale implementation issues andbe responsible forCivil Engineering design requirements


Key Responsibilities:

  • Working withmultipledesign and engineering professionals on concepts and build projects.
  • Managingdata center designs and features.
  • Assistingthe development of CSA Basis of Design prototype design and template specifications for civil engineering systems.
  • Creatingreviewingand releasing datacenterCivil Engineering designs.
  • Serve as aSMEfor DC design projects including; review of civil engineering designs such as roads drainage civil site works bulk earthworks cut/fill analysisretainingwalls; evaluating civil engineering design options and assessing civil engineering calculation assumptions.
  • Evaluatingdue diligencereports and creating scopes of workfor geotechnical investigation testing.
  • Creatingreviewingand releasing civil engineering designscope of work packages.
  • Coordinate with internal and external MEP design engineers.
  • Managingexternal design consultants.
  • Work on multiple data centerbuildprojects simultaneously.
  • Travel forsite assessments consultant selection activities internal design meetings construction review interface with AHJs design consultants quantity surveyors and building owners.
  • Anticipated travel:25%.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate the constructability ofnewtechnologiesanddetermineconstruction methods of data center facilities.
  • Proficient withCivil 3D AutoCAD Revit BluebeamPrimavera P6and MS Office Suite.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering Civil Services or a related field (masters or Ph.D. preferred).
  • 10 years of Extensive experience in managingCivil designdelivery across multiple projects or business units
  • Strong technical knowledge ofcivil infrastructure
  • Proven leadership and team management skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solvinganalyticaland strategic planning skills
  • Experience with Tier 1 contractor projects or complex multi-disciplinaryprograms
  • Knowledge of sustainableCivilsolutions and low-carbon design
  • Familiarity with digital construction toolsBIMand lean methodologies
  • Extensive knowledge ofcommondata environmentssuch asACC and Procore.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • License: Professional Civil Engineering license.
  • Experience working in global data center projects navigating region-specific regulations and environmental conditions.
  • Hyperscaler: Familiarity with (AWS Microsoft Azure Google Cloud Oracle Cloud and Meta) cloud providers data center requirements.
  • Professional accreditation or membership of a relevant body (e.g. CIBSE IET Engineers Ireland)
  • Chartered status with a relevant professional body
  • Postgraduate qualification in building services projectmanagementor sustainability
  • Training in digital design BIMmanagementor innovativeCiviltechnologies

  • Creative problem-solver: Ability to troubleshoot and optimize system performance effectively.

Working Conditions:

  • This role requires occasional travel to data center sites across multiple regions (up to 25% travel).
  • Ability to work in both office environments and active construction sites adhering to all safety protocols.

Expected Salary Range: $175000 $225000 plus bonus.

Location: Seattle WA (Mercer Island) but will also consider candidates from Denver CO and Alexandria VA.
