Purpose

The Accounting Assistant III in Commercial Services/Billingperforms timely and accurate pre-billing review of all customer accounts beforebills are generated looking for unusual items such as high negative or noconsumption reporting.

Essential Functions

Pre-Billing Review

  • Perform a weekly detailed pre-billing review of up to 15000 customer accounts to identify unusual water usage and resolve discrepancies with meter reads.

Billing Issues and Adjustments

  • Post meter reading or other billing adjustments to customer accounts in accordance with MWW procedures and Public Service Commission (PSC) regulations.
  • Prepare customer correspondence tailored to the specific issue or type of adjustment.
  • Contact Water Meter Investigators to resolve meter reading errors or issues and follow up regarding appropriate corrective actions.
  • Communicate with suburban wholesale customers to resolve billing requests disputes and changes.
  • Serve as a resource for the Customer Service Representative IIIs by answering and assisting with complex billing questions involving commercial and industrial customers.

Billing Reports and Projects

  • Process weekly and monthly bill mailings monthly suburban billing work order updates daily adjustments fire line set ticket reviews annual well surveys and other special projects.
  • Complete required documentation to update accounts resulting from the combination or division of properties by the Assessors Office
  • Perform updates to water service lateral data.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Regular status as a City of Milwaukee employee having successfully completed a probationary period for a civil service position or status as a City of Milwaukee employee in a fixed-term position.
  2. Three years of progressively responsible accounting support experience performing accounting-related functions such as billing accounts receivable payroll processing accounts payable and reconciling accounts.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may beconsidered.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with the enQuesta customer information system (CIS).

  • Knowledge of customer billing principles and practices.
  • Ability to comprehend and effectively follow City of Milwaukee Public Service Commission of Wisconsin and MWW billing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computerized accounting systems spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to use the appropriate mathematical method or formula to complete work assignments.
  • Attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of calculations data entry and billing reports.
  • Ability to read and interpret job-related materials.

  • Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Verbal communication skills to clearly convey technical information to various audiences.
  • Written communication skills to create business correspondence and reports.

Current Salary

The current salary range (Pay Range 5GN) is $53351-$66689 annuallyand the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residentsis $54952-$68690 annually.Appointment will be made in accordance with provisions of the salary ordinance.

Selection Process

THE SELECTION PROCESSwill be job-related and willconsist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of related educationexperience and accomplishments an evaluation of written communicationinterviews and/or other assessment methods. The Milwaukee Water Works reservesthe right to call only the most qualified candidates to proceed in theselection process. Information from the selection process will be used to makea hiring decision. Selected candidates will be transferred and/or promoted tothe position.
