Job Summary

Glenorchy City Council is seeking a passionate and community-focused 26TEN Community Connector to help strengthen adult language literacy and numeracy (LLN) across our municipality.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a place-based project that supports lifelong learning builds community capability and creates sustainable networks that continue well beyond the life of the project.

About the role:

The 26TEN Community Connector will work closely with community members volunteers businesses and service providers to identify local LLN needs and connect people with the right support where they live and work.

Reporting to the Coordinator Community Development the role is a key contributor within Councils Community Development team and works collaboratively across Council and with a wide range of external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Map local literacy services and user groups to support the sustainable growth of adult literacy and numeracy in the Glenorchy community.
  • Promote the value of language literacy and numeracy and lifelong learning through community engagement events and promotional activities.
  • Build and support a strong local network of literacy practitioners tutors and volunteers including identifying professional development needs.
  • Promote plain English practices across local organisations particularly in essential public information and forms.
  • Work closely with local businesses clubs and community organisations to establish and support 26TEN ambassadors.

About you:

You are a motivated and organised professional with a strong commitment to community development and lifelong learning. You enjoy working with diverse stakeholders and are confident building trusted relationships across community business and government.

You will bring:

  • At least two years experience in a similar role including planning reporting and project evaluation.
  • A strong understanding of adult and family literacy and learning principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making capability with a practical and solutions-focused approach.

Position details:

  • full-time (76 hours fortnight).
  • Fixed term (12 months)
  • 9-day fortnight because life happens outside of work too.
