Job Summary

The Melbourne Racing Club is one of Australias most dynamic sporting events and property development organisations. Alongside hosting world-class racing at Caulfield Sportsbet Sandown and Mornington Racecourses the Club also owns 15 hospitality and gaming venues under the Pegasus Leisure Group (PLG) across metropolitan Melbourne.

We are seeking a Venue Manager for Sandown Racecourse on a permanent full-time basis. In this role you will have overall responsibility for the planning coordination and delivery of venue operations ensuring all race-days car track activities and events are executed smoothly and to a consistently high standard. You will lead operational planning across all areas of the venue oversee event and function overlays and ensure the racecourse is presented at an optimum standard at all times.

This role plays a key part in delivering safe well-managed and memorable experiences for all stakeholders while maintaining strong operational logistical and presentation standards across the venue.

What will your responsibilities be

  • Lead planning and delivery of race-day non-race day car track and owned events at Sandown overseeing bump-in/out setup and operations.
  • Planning and documenting motorsport activity and processes.
  • Develop and implement venue operational plans overlays and asset management procedures tailored to event scale.
  • Oversee venue signage planning systems schedules and administrative processes with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide operational support to Caulfield and Mornington.
  • Prepare event documentation for licensing and compliance; manage venue emergency management planning.
  • Manage operational budgets for race-day motorsport and core services.
  • Act as liaison for essential services and external contractors including Racing Victoria Motorsport Australia and emergency services.
  • Manage internal stakeholder relationships and support project delivery across events and operational functions.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong project management capabilities with a proven track record of delivering complex initiatives.
  • Extensive experience in event logistics planning and execution in high-pressure environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and nurture relationships with clients suppliers and key partners.
  • Proven capacity to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and perform under tight deadlines.
  • Sound financial acumen including experience with budget management expense tracking and reporting.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Adept at stakeholder engagement including at senior and executive levels.
  • Highly developed time management organisation and prioritisation skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a proactive solutions-focused approach.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in Venue Management Event Management or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a fast-paced high-volume environment within the sports events or hospitality industries.
  • Strong understanding of permits regulatory and compliance requirements relating to public events.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and regulations particularly as they apply to temporary and permanent structures used for events.
  • Due to the nature of the event industry there is a requirement to work weekends public holidays and outside of the standard 9am-5pm dependent on the event schedule.
  • The role requires flexibility to work as part of a seven-day roster including weekends early starts and late finishes in line with the needs of venue hirers.
