Mount Saint Charles Academys athletic program one of the most prestigious high school programs in New England is beginning the search for its next coach to not only continue a legacy of success but a legacy of helping instill in student athletes a commitment to the core values of a Catholic education. Exciting opportunity:Chance to build your own coaching staff middle school through high to operate skill clinics and summer camps including overnight ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Mount Saint Charles Academys commitment to our students and their families. He/She will be familiar with the rules and regulations of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and become an integral part of the Mount Saint Charles community. The coach is responsible for helping prepare student athletes for athletic competition and academic success. Not only will he or she be responsible for helping students develop an appreciation of the sport but an appreciation and commitment to the core values of our school. The next head coach will help our students not just to embrace a love for sport and physical activity but a love for lifelong :Assesses players skills and assigns team positions as requested/requiredCoaches and instructs players individually or in groups regarding the rules regulations equipment and techniques of the sportObserves players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team and demonstrates proper student athlete behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes during all team sanctioned activitiesMonitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are with parents/guardians as necessary regarding the athletic performance and academic performance of each student to all state regulations governing high school sports and the coaching of student athletesModels proper behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players officials and as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with parents the news media alumni activities and other organizations as requested/ established procedures for the proper care maintenance and requisitioning of equipment supplies and in special activities to include parents night banquets award nights and pep assemblies and all other marketing events for Mount Saint Charles in a positive manner with staff students and parents at all working with high school studentsKnowledge of Mount Saint Charles Academy its history and reputationAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective active listening skillsAbility to work effectively with othersOrganizational and problem solving skillsAbility to work effectively with othersComputer literate and social media savvyQUALIFICATIONSMinimum of high school diploma bachelors degree First Aid/CPR/AED Training; Background Check required once hiredTwo to three years coaching experience preferredMust possess effective coaching techniques and skillsMust possess knowledge of sport rules regulations strategies and techniquesTeacher - Coach Ministry Description from MSC Coaching Handbook1. Is directly responsible to the Athletic Director.2. Supports the philosophy of the school and offers assistance in building Christian community and coaches our student-athletes to play the game with passion but also with fairness. The exemplary coach will be one who can win without losing sight of the fact that he/she is a teacher and the players are students; the coach will teach players to adhere to the rules of the game recognize the dignity of the opponent and understand the true meaning of sportsmanship.3. Supervises the coaching area before during and after practice and games. Must be present on the field or in the locker room at the designated time of practice. At its conclusion the coach is expected to remain on site until all have left and to check the lights showers and general condition of the area then see that doors are locked when he/she leaves. No student shall be left anywhere in the gym area once doors are locked.4. Instructs all participants in the rules and regulations of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and ensures that the rules are obeyed.5. Attends meetings conferences and clinics to keep abreast of changes. Attendance at interpretation meetings called by the Principals Committee on Athletics is mandatory.6. Collects required documentation such as participation permits and physical examination certificates for the Athletic Directors office.7. Keeps a running inventory of equipment. An updated inventory is filed with the Athletic Director at the start and at the end of each season.8. Acquires necessary equipment from the Athletic Director and exercises reasonable care in the proper use of and accounting for material and facilities.9. Ensures the availability of all equipment necessary for each event for which he/she is responsible.10. Submits requisitions in writing to the Athletic Director for replacement of athletic equipment.11. Arranges all transportation for sports with the Athletic Director and the Business Manager. 12. Makes an accurate eligibility list for submission to the Athletic Director.13. Submits a team roster to the Athletic Director and advises him of all changes.14. Provides especially for the students in his/her charge a good example of self-control and sportsmanship.15. Is responsible for the conduct of players while they are under the coachs care at home or away and is expected to accompany the students to a game rather than travel in a separate vehicle.16. Assures that medical attention is given promptly when needed and submits injury reports as soon as possible to the Principal and the Athletic Director.17. Works with the Athletic Director and the whole faculty towards the goals established by the school philosophy.18. Determines the duties of any assistant coach.19. Abides by all the rules and policies of the relevant supervisory body governing the schools participation in the sport for which he/she is responsible.20. Arranges for up-to-date statistics to be kept on team and individual activity and submits a final report to the Athletic Director at the end of the season.21. Secures his or her own moderator if he/she so chooses and issues a specific written job description for him or her.22. Secures his or her own managers and scorers and assigns them appropriate duties in writing.23. Arranges an exhibition game schedule and coordinates it with the Athletic Director.24. Coordinates gym and field schedules with the Athletic Director. 25. Is certified in First Aid by appropriate and recommended courses.26. Guards against any attempts at initiation or hazing by athletes.27. Provides the Athletic Director with schedules for the coordination of transportation and stipends for referees.28. Completes appropriate certifications and trainings required by Rhode Island Interscholastic League and Mount Saint Charles.
