* * * * Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Coordinator of Field Experience and Special Education Faculty Professor.
  • Schedule observations for assigned candidates.
  • Mentor and supervise HIDOE teachers and UHWO teacher candidates pursuing Special Education licensure.
  • Focus on instructional excellence. Provide guidance on areas like lesson planning student engagement strategies and using a formative assessment system to track progress and development.
  • Observe coach and provide feedback to students in field-based classroom settings.
  • Provide feedback to Coordinator of Field Experience and Special Education Faculty members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of masters degree in education.
  • Working knowledge of national content standards Hawaii Content and Performance Standards InTASC Standards and Framework for Teaching.
  • Three (3) years full-time K-6 teaching experience as teacher of record.
  • Experience working with various student populations including special education.
  • Experience mentoring students in field settings.
  • Experience in field-based standards based teacher education.
