ABOUT US

Our Newham is a service run by Newham Councils Community Wealth Building division to provide a wide range of support for residents and businesses in the borough focusing on five main areas: Money Work Youth Business & Enterprise and Learning & Skills. The program offers confidential advice and guidance on topics like employment financial management business start-ups training and apprenticeships.

Key programs

  • Our Newham Youth: Offers employability support skills training and apprenticeships for young people aged 16-24.
  • Our Newham Money: Provides support and tips for managing finances saving and claiming benefits.
  • Our Newham Work: Connects residents with employment and helps employers find local talent. This includes advice on jobs apprenticeships and training.
  • Our Newham Business & Enterprise: Supports local businesses and start-ups with advice training digital support and networking events.
  • Our Newham Learning & Skills: Provides professional training and other guidance to help residents develop new skills.

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the southeast. It is well connected by public transport with bus tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.

ABOUT THE JOB

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Personal Advisor with a specialism in SEND/SEN support to join our dynamic Our Newham Youth Service. This is a key role within the Local Authoritys efforts to improve post-16 outcomes for young people with EHCPs (Education Health and Care Plans) and those with additional needs who are at risk of becoming NEET.

As a Post 16 NEET Advisor you will work directly with young people their families education providers professionals and employers to support transitions into sustained education employment or training pathways.

You will provide young people impartial information advice and guidance to help young people make informed decisions about their future.

ABOUT YOU

  • Experienced in working with young people with SEND and/ and or those facing barriers to education training or employment.
  • Knowledgeable about the post-16 landscape including Study programmes Supported Internships Traineeships apprenticeships and inclusive employment practices.
  • Organised and able to manage a caseload effectively keeping detailed records and tracking outcomes.
  • Empathetic and resilient with excellent communication skills to engage young people families and professionals.
  • Able to build strong networks with local providers employers and voluntary sector partners to open up pathways for young people.
  • Relevant experience in careers guidance youth work education employment support and SEND services.
  • Knowledge of statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 Raising Participation age 2013 and Preparing for Adulthood outcomes.
  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
