Job Summary

Are you passionate about tackling the challenges of large-scale networked systems Join us to advance modeling and control tools for complex interconnected systems and drive innovation in optimization and performance.

Introduction

The complexity of engineered systems continues to grow driven by increasing interaction communication and integration between components subsystems and modules designed to work together. This trend has led to the creation of large-scale networked systems which pose novel challenges in science and engineering particularly in areas such as control identification design diagnostics and fault isolation. The modular structure and interconnected nature of these systems demand advanced modeling and control tools that leverage their distributed and structured characteristics for effective optimization andperformance.

Control Systems group

The Control Systems (CS) group within the Electrical Engineering department at the Eindhoven University of Technology consists of 5 full professors 5 associate professors 4 assistant professors postdocs approximately 30 EngD and PhD candidates and support staff. The mission of the group is to be an internationally recognized center of research in systems and control where contributions to fundamental theory are combined with advancing innovative technological applications in a selected number of domains in cooperation with relevant industrial partners. The fundamental research of CS is directed towards the following research lines:

  • Data-driven modelling in dynamic networks
  • Modelling and control of linear parameter varying systems
  • Spatial-temporal multi-physics systems and model reduction
  • Data analytics machine learning artificial intelligence
  • Constrained and interconnected systems
  • Model-based control and optimization
  • Control of cyber-physical systems

Application domains range from multi-physics high-tech/mechatronic systems automotive systems energy and power converter systems to industrial process control each of these domains CS collaborateswith leading companies contributing our fundamental knowledge to their innovation roadmaps.

Job Description

As an Assistant Professor you will:

  • Conduct research in the field of networked systems focusing on distributed control optimization and data-driven modelling.
  • Develop innovative methods for modelling control and design of modular and structured systems in the electrical engineering domain.
  • Address challenges in dynamic networks including fault isolation diagnostics and optimal design.
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary projects and contribute to applications in electrical network systems and other high-tech domains.
  • Secure research funding from national and international programs and build strong collaborations with industry.
  • Contribute to TU/es educational mission by teaching courses in systems and control and supervising BSc MSc and PhD students.

In this role you will contribute to the ambition of the Beethoven program to educate top talent and strengthen research across the fields of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate:

  • Motivated researcher with a PhD in the engineering domain (electrical engineering mechanical engineering or in applied physics) and with sufficient expertise in the systems and control research area.
  • Shows potential for leadership and team collaboration.
  • Has experience or strong motivation to secure research funding and build collaborative networks.
  • Shows affinity with teaching and willingness to obtain the University Teaching Qualification.
  • Maintains interest in applying research to practical challenges and industry needs.
