Junior School Vlaskamp campus in The Hague has around 450children on role from Foundation Stage 1 up to Year 6 and is proud to be an internationally diverse community including children from over 80 different nationalities. We offer a wide range of support and interventions for students who have Additional Educational Needs as we believe that all students are entitled to receive a broad balanced and relevant curriculum which provides them with an equal opportunity to develop their full potential. We are proud of our record of including children with additional needs into mainstream classes although on occasion the provision of a designated Learning Support Assistant may be required to meet the learning needs of some children.

Key responsibilities:

• Contributing to the EAL and whole school learning environment by promoting (or advocating for) an environment where the social and academic needs of all multilingual learners are met and celebrating the diversity of our school community;

• Working in partnership within the EAL team and with Class Teachers to support individual students and small groupsin the early stages of English acquisition ensuring access to the curriculum.

• Work in collaboration with other EAL leads and teams across the organisation to plan for and develop provision for all learners

• Co-plan and scaffold learning with teaching teams advocating for the needs of children who continue to develop their language skills. This may include leading small groups co-teaching and designing short and medium term learning plans that are parallel to whole class learning and tailored to individual needs.

• Engage and communicate effectively with parents teachers and teaching assistants to support each childs progress and wellbeing.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Qualified Teacher with a recognised degree and teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or a .);

• Experience of working preferably in a British School or in an international school environment with the British curriculum;

• Prior experience in a primary school.

Skills and Competencies:

• Fluent in English;

• Team player enjoy collaboration with colleagues;

• Interpersonal skills - maintain excellent relationships with students staff and parents;

• Have a flexible and patient approach to their role;

• Caring attitude and confidence with working with groups of children is essential

• An understanding of the developmental stages of language acquisition

The working language of The BSN is English. The Dutch are excellent linguists and English is widely spoken by around 70% of the population.

Transport services and connections are excellent - our campuses are located in The Hague just 30 or so minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol airport or in the other direction from the Hoek of Holland ferry terminal. Public transport is fast reliable and generally good value for money but many choose the truly Dutch option of cycling making good use of the highly developed network of cycle paths.
