The University of Iowa Health Care department of Radiology is seeking a Radiation Sciences Educator in the Office of Student Affairs who contributes to providing and supporting health care services through leadership management and education in the Radiation Sciences Programs. Educators in this position will teach supervise coordinate assess support advise mentor and retain students prior to and after acceptance into the Radiation Sciences Programs of radiologic technology diagnostic medical sonography radiation therapy and/or nuclear medicine technology.
The position provides supervision of laboratory and didactic education of students in the Radiation Sciences Programs to assure the effective and efficient delivery of healthcare and health professions education. This position requires certification in Radiography Diagnostic Medical Sonography Radiation Therapy or Nuclear Medicine Technology. This position will exercise technical expertise in the Radiation Sciences to function as a laboratory educator didactic educator mentor and advisor of students and perform as a certified Radiologic Technologist Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Radiation Therapist or Nuclear Medicine Technologist while working with students.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide specialized services educational plans and protocols within the Radiation Sciences Programs requiring certification(s) in Radiologic Technology Diagnostic Medical Sonography Radiation Therapy and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology.
Develop and assess competent performance in students within the Radiation Sciences Programs by designing and creating instructional and assessment materials using education management systems (ICON).
Mentor teach advise and supervise students within the Radiation Sciences Programs and provide evaluative feedback about performance.
Facilitate changes in program design and instruction within the Radiation Sciences Programs based on systematic evaluation and evidence-based research.
Operate maintain and update equipment and supplies used in providing instructional labs and demonstrations within the Radiation Sciences Programs.
Provide advanced health education in the radiation sciences to staff residents and students using summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple clear language appropriate to the audience.
Understanding of and ability to use effective communication concepts tools and techniques.
Utilize professional certification and knowledge of radiography sonography radiation therapy and/or nuclear medicine to create implement teach and assess radiation sciences activities.
Create and deliver radiation sciences presentations to middle school high school and college
students based on radiation sciences certification and professional expertise.
Adapt the curriculum and differentiate the career/degree requirements and expectations mandated by accreditation and certification organizations.
Use critical thinking skills professional certification knowledge and professional judgment to apply/adopt imaging technology information to address health issues related to the radiation sciences professions.
Influence others to utilize best practices.
Assist with development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to the radiation sciences professions and educational programs.
Share responsibility for quality and outcomes reporting with supervisors within the Radiation Sciences Programs including monitoring of course enrollments and budget adjustments based on enrollments.
May hire develop supervise and manage the performance of students and staff and assure compliance with UI and UIHC policies and procedures.
Maintain effective working relationships with faculty staff students and the public.

Education Required
Baccalaureate degree or higher level of education.
Successful completion of a two-year or other program approved by the Joint Review Committee of Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT) or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology/Sonography.
Experience Requirements
Minimum of two years full-time post-certification professional experience as a radiologic technologist sonographer radiation therapist or nuclear medicine technologist.
Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills
Certification Requirements
- Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) Radiation Therapy (T) or Nuclear Medicine Technology (N); Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB); or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Desirable Qualifications
- Certification in two or more specialty areas is desired with preference determined by instructional needs of the program.
Clinical instructing experience.
Laboratory instructing experience.
Classroom instructing experience.
Academic advising experience.
Clinical advising experience.
Educational coursework to include educational theory course development instructional design and assessment methods.
Soft skills including active listening conflict resolution problem-solving adaptability and teamwork.
Masters degree or coursework towards a degree.
