Over 60% of students who start community college do not complete a degree or successfully transfer to a four-year institution. However 84% of jobs in the US require skills training beyond high school. OMDs holistic support model is designed to support community college students as they work toward degrees and careers. From tutors and coaches to financial assistance and professional development OMD helps community college students succeed in school work and life transforming their futures and the futures of those around them for generations.

The OMD student support model is rooted in evaluation and evidence: A randomized controlled trial conducted with the University of Chicago Inclusive Economy Lab shows that OMD scholars are 70% more likely to enroll 94% more likely to persist 73% more likely to earn a degree.

Currently OMD serves scholars in all 7 of the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) and is scaling to reach over 3000 community college scholars by 2026 through our unique partnership with addition to direct services OMD partners with employers across industries to build on-ramps to in-demand jobs through internships and apprenticeships and supports institutions nationwide to design and implement models of holistic student support.

Through this growing body of work OMD continues to have a profound impact in Chicagoland while becoming a national model for sustainable scalable and systemic change.

Position Summary:

The Program Coordinator (PC) is the heart of OMDs Scholar Support Model responsible for effectively managing a caseload of up to 75 community college students ensuring their successful persistence and completion in college and the OMD Program as well as a successful transition to a bachelors program or career.

The OMD PC will be embedded at one of our City Colleges partner sites including but not limited to Harold Washington Malcolm X or Olive-Harvey College. Duties which are outlined below include Scholar engagement and management partner engagement data collection and analysis curriculum facilitation and recruitment support. Through OMD partnerships this PC will likely work closely with non-traditional student populations including adult learners and part-time attendees.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Scholar Engagement and Management

  • Implement OMDs high-touch Scholar support model with fidelity to ensure Scholar academic personal and professional goals are being met and that Scholars are on-track to graduate within three years.

  • Build rapport with Scholars and continuously engage and hold them accountable to OMD program expectations and requirements.

  • Serve as a thought partner to assist Scholars in exploring solutions to problems and ensuring persistence in the face of obstacles that could derail progress toward goals.

  • Promote scholar registration and attendance at relevant OMD and partner college programming.

Partner Engagement and Management

  • Build relationships with campus partners by attending campus programming and regularly meeting with student services staff to leverage and strengthen Scholars networks of support.

  • Maintain awareness of the type and availability of college and community resources and efficiently connect Scholars to the appropriate services.

  • Coordinate with other OMD stakeholders such as coach volunteers and tutors ensuring that Scholars follow-up with these resources

  • Maintain awareness and understanding of OMDs partner collaborations Data Collection and Analysis

  • Use Salesforce database to maintain accurate and timely data on Scholar interactions grades and program participation to identify patterns in the scholar population and program performance

  • Gather and track Scholar program deliverables that align with OMDs pillars of support and overall data health and integrity such as student services and resource usagecurrent and post-grad plans and setting SMART goals

  • PCs are held to metrics including attempted and successful interactions with Scholars and other required deliverables

Curriculum Facilitation

  • Plan and execute monthly Scholar development sessions Scholar orientation and other scholar development events in collaboration with OMD staff and campus partners.

  • Implement high quality engaging programming aimed at building Scholar community and reinforcing growth mindset and non-cognitive skills.

Recruitment Support

  • Represent OMD at schools community organizations and scholarship fairs

  • Facilitate information sessions for prospective Scholars as well as provisional admission meetings and workshops

  • Collaborate with the Program Supports team to support recruitment targets and application processing

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree preferred

Experience:

  • 2 years (or equivalent) work experience preferably in education or human services

  • Experience having direct accountability for the achievements/outcomes of a group of individuals (caseload management experience is a plus)

  • Service fellowship experience such as AmeriCorps is a plus

Skills:

  • Project Management Proven success in a project leader role with multiple stakeholders

  • Communication Strong verbal and written communication skills; proven ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences especially adults and older youth

  • Data Management Recognizes the significance of data in facilitating efficient program execution and ensuring data accuracy and reliability

  • Technology Proficient in utilizing various Microsoft Suite platforms and demonstrates an aptitude for quickly learning and adapting to new tools to support overall work within role

  • Teamwork Demonstrates a proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a team

Compensation and Benefits for Full-time Employees:

  • Salary: $ 53000*

  • Full Health Benefits Provided for all full-time employees including medical dental and vision. OMD pays 100% of individuals basic monthly health premium and 80% dependent coverage.

  • Professional Learning Opportunities OMD supports employee development in areas relevant to professional and organizational goals and will pay for training such as workshops and conferences as agreed upon by employee and supervisor.

  • Hybrid Work Schedule One in-office day required a week; plus eight additional in-person days a month if needed which will be determined by the supervisor with input from the employee and other team members.

* Set by Collective Bargaining Agreement between OMD and Cook County College Teachers Union.

All employees are expected to work a set number of Saturdays and evening hours per year due to organizational-wide events.
