We are a team of vibrant professionals with experience across a range of sectors including renewables infrastructure defence regulation and policy resources and the urban development sector.

Currently Umwelt are looking to appoint a Senior WHS project Advisor to their national HSEQ team on a 6-month fixed term contract working 3 days a week.

About the Role:

As a Senior WHS Project Advisor you will play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture among our team and ensuring high standards of health safety environmental and quality in all our projects. You will collaborate with and assist the Safety Quality and Integrated Systems Lead in carrying out and sustaining project related workplace health and safety initiatives and related reporting with a strong emphasis on compliance and continuous improvement. This role will operate at a national level and assist our field teams prepare for project delivery through hazard IDs and risk assessment and mitigation while working in an ISO certified systems in OHS and Quality Management.

This role will perform various tasks such as compliance risk identification assessment and control activities client WHS gap fit audits and Project specific safety management plans delivery while achieving results that match our clients project requirements. You will ensure that all health and safety guidelines and procedures are promoted manage the execution of risk assessments lead risk mitigation activities and assist in investigation activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complying detailed risk assessments identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate and control risks related to health safety environment and quality
  • Developing implementing and ongoing management of strategies policies and procedures aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Complying client projects specific safety management plans
  • Conducting regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to relevant standards regulatory compliance and best practices. Developing corrective action plans when necessary
  • Assisting with incident investigations analysing root causes and developing strategies to prevent recurrence. Ensuring timely and accurate reporting of incidents to relevant stakeholders
  • Providing advice to clients on systems and driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders subcontractors and regulatory agencies to promote a proactive approach to HSEQ management
  • Maintaining accurate records of HSEQ activities preparing comprehensive reports and communicating findings as required to relevant stakeholders

About You:

  • A relevant qualification Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
  • 5 years experience within a similar industry (consulting construction or engineering etc)
  • A strong understanding of national HSEQ regulations standards and best practices
  • Experience identifying improvements within the health safety and quality systems in line with 9001 & 45001
  • Worked in a consulting project delivery team providing WHS and compliance advice on all projects
  • A strong understanding of compliance and accompanying systems to monitor and measure health and safety outcomes
  • An ability to complete internal auditing and demonstrate risk mitigation techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • An analytical mindset and problem-solving abilities to assess HSEQ issues and develop effective strategies
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines work effectively under pressure without compromising on safety
  • A high level of confidentiality who is reliable and flexible
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint & Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • A Return to Work (RTW) Coordinator and mental health first aid qualifications (or willingness to obtain)
  • A current drivers licence
