Work Schedule

Work schedule may extend beyond regular office hours of 8 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday as needed to complete assignments. Evening activities and weekend work are required to meet the needs and expectations of prospective and new students and their parents. The candidate will work a variable work schedule (occasional Saturdays evening programs e.g.) Off campus travel is sporadically required including overnight stays in support of events and recruitment.

Hiring Range

$15.45 - $21.00 hourly contingent upon available funding

About this Position

The Orientation Programs & Event Specialist will provide leadership and professional expertise in the planning and implementation of prospective and new student experience programs including but not limited to orientation and enrollment and prospective student events. Work collaboratively with the admissions and recruitment office staff and other members of the campus community to plan and execute effective new student programs in an effort to achieve institutional enrollment goals. Job duties include but are not limited to: booking venue space ordering catering communicating room set-up monitoring daily data reports compiling event material packets and managing office email inboxes. Ensure that high standards and enrollment initiatives set by the division of Enrollment Management and Brand Management are reflected in the orientation programming experiences.

Required Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Two years of work experience

    Post-secondary education may be substituted for experience

    This position requires a high level of internal and external public contact serving as a liaison between the Admissions and Recruitment Office various academic units and other organizations within the University. Strong written verbal interpersonal and technical skills are necessary. Knowledge of MS application. Experience in and knowledge of planning execution and management of various prospective student-centered experiences or programs. Demonstrated ability to formulate creative ideas and to analyze evaluate and negotiate details reflective of a successful new student experience. Demonstrated project management time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage details of multiple and complex projects within firm schedules; Must possess computer skills and the ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software knowledge of desktop production and database systems. Ability to review data reports and accurately facilitate discussions and decisions related to orientation programs and prospective student events including but not limited to registration numbers general event plans venue and room sizes catering etc. Must possess conflict management skills and the ability to offer solution-focused ideas /results. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    Must be able to lift in excess of 45 lbs.

    Must be able to conduct campus-wide tours up to two hours or longer outdoors in varying weather conditions with or without mobility accommodations

  • Certifications Registrations and/or Licenses:

    Valid Drivers License

  • Skills Proficiencies and/or Knowledge:

    Able to work in a fast-paced team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills excellent general office skills; high ethical standards and professional behavior; be able to work independently; Knowledge of MS application.
