Job Summary

Description

We are seekinga full-time Postdoc in the section of Digital Building Technology (DBT) at DTU Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (DTU Construct). This research position will explore reaction evolution mechanisms for magnesium-based binders leveraging state-of-the-art experimentation and numerical modelling tools.

This position is part of the prestigious Villum Synergy project Mathcrete and offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with another Postdoc specializing in 3D nano image reconstruction and modelling tools development as well as other PhDs and Postdocs within the interdisciplinary group. Together we aim to push the boundaries of digital building technology and material science!

Responsibilities
Your overall focus will be to conduct experiments on exploring the evolution of magnesium-based binders in different environments with particular interest in carbonation mechanisms. You will gain hands-on experience with advanced equipment and computational modelling tools to analyse the reactions on both micro- and macro-scales. As a part of this project your responsibilities will encompass the following tasks:

  • Processing of magnesium-based binders and cementitious materials using different techniques.
  • Multi-scale characterization of the materials using e.g. SEM RAMAN imaging TEM XRD rheology and multiscale mechanical testing.
  • Lab-source and synchrotron 3D micro and nano-imaging.
  • Close collaboration with the interdisciplinary team at DTU Construct DTU 3D Imaging Centre and DTU Compute.
  • Research and teaching efforts at a section and departmental level as appropriate and relevant (e.g. teach and co-supervise PhD and MSc student projects).
  • Dissemination of your research through publications in top rank journals of the field and attendance at conferences.

Qualification:

  • Background within cement and inorganic chemistry or related fields.
  • Experience with the early-age and in-situ characterization techniques of cementitious materials.
