    Steps to Apply as a Substitute Teacher for BCSD:

    1. In order to be eligible you must first obtain your Sub Permit register with the KCSOS office as a Sub Teacher and be given a packet that says Congratulations You are eligible to seek employment as a Subsitute Teacher in Kern County. If you have the packet you are ready to apply with our district. If you dont have the packet please visit the KCSOS office first so you can complete your preliminary paperwork.

    2. You will need to attach paperwork to your application so make sure you have access to a scanner. If you dont have access to a scanner you will need to provide COPIES of all the required documents to our office AFTER you submit your application online. Its in your best interest to keep the original copies of your paperwork so please make sure you provide the copies to us we do not make copies for you.

    3. Please attach the following paperwork from bothsections in the Other Documents Section of your Application:
    KCSOS Paperwork: Your Own Paperwork:
    Valid Teaching Permit or Credential that includes the document
    number and expiration date
    or your Current Temporary County
    Certificate for KCSOS.
    Resume
    Form titled Information Necessary for Sub Teaching completed by KCSOS Transcripts showing a Bachelors Degree or showing that you have 90 semester units and currently enrolled in a 4 year university. (they do not have to be official transcripts)
    DOJ Fingerprint Clearance (half sheet)
    TB Results with doctors signature
    Medical Examination form (Physical)
    Certification of Completion for the
    Mandated Reporter Training (CANRA)
    & Sexual Harassment Training

    (both certificates need to have a completion date of July 1st 2025 or later)

    NOTE: You must submit your application with ALL required paperwork otherwise you will not be considered.

    Copies of required certificates transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

    It is the applicants responsibility to meet all application requirements and supply copies of all required documents. A separate set of paperwork is required for each application submitted. All application materials submitted become the property of Bakersfield City School District.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
