Qualifications
The Per Diem Speech Language Pathologist evaluates and treats patients referred for speech language cognitive and dysphagia dysfunction.
Responsibilities
- Administers speech/language and or cognitive evaluations tests or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment.
- Evaluates speech/language test results and medical or background information to determine speech impairment and treatment.
- Counsels and instructs patients concerning communication disorders and how to cope with the stress and misunderstanding that may accompany them.
- Provides patients families and caregivers with ongoing counseling and education to facilitate communication.
- Assists patients in developing and recovering reliable communication and swallowing skills to allow them to fulfill their educational vocational and social roles.
- Conducts speech pathology in-service training programs for rehabilitation staff.
- Records and maintains reports of speech or swallowing treatments.
- Formulates and implements group therapy programs to address the needs of impaired patients and their families.
- Participates in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new speech pathology or speech/cognitive/language/dysphagia treatment methods or technology.
- Performs other related duties
Qualifications
- Masters degree or equivalent education in speech-language pathology
- New York State Speech-Language Pathologist License; New York State Education Department
- 1 year of speech-language pathology experience
- Name: Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech and Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) (1 Year) Agency: American Speech Language Hearing Association
