Do you have a strong mathematical background in theoretical algebra/geometry
Are you inspired by applications to engineering physics or industrial problems and do you thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment Here is a unique opportunity for you!
The Discrete Mathematics (DM) cluster of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (M&CS) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is looking for an Assistant Professor in Algebra and/ or chosen candidate will join the Discrete Algebra and Geometry (DAG) group which includes Mireille Boutin Hans Cuijpers Rob Eggermont and Samantha Fairchild and work with over 130 faculty colleagues across the department to fulfill the research and teaching mission of the university.
Algebra and geometry are a traditional strength of the DM recent years these areas have started to play a crucial role in the solution of problems encountered in applications including problems that have been previously attacked using more numerical approaches. For example some members of the DAG group are currently working on metrology and inverse lithography problems with ASML using discrete invariant theory. Others are working on problems of localization and mapping from sensor data (e.g. GPS) using techniques from distance geometry and billiards. Ideally the candidate would complement the groups expertise for example by bringing in an algebra focus.
Are you an accomplished researcher in some core area of algebra and/or geometry Do you also have a track record of applying mathematics to problems in engineering physics or industry We are particularly interested in finding someone with experience in solving problems involving discrete/random/noisy data.
The language of instruction at TU/e is English. The start date is flexible but could be as early as June 1 2026.
With over 110 (assistant associate and full) professors almost 300 PhD and EngD students about 1500 Bachelor students and 1000 Master students the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (M&CS) is the largest department of the TU/e. By performing top-level fundamental and applied research and maintaining strong ties with industry M&CS aims to contribute to science and innovation in and beyond the region.
A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful green campus within walking distance of the central train addition we offer you:
